What does that mean to you?
For me it means: Nothing is truly off limits. Some foods are not kept around the house as much, because the calorie count just doesn't fit well in a normal day. It doesn't mean that there won't be times that I plan to have it, but it is not regularly in the house. There are some foods that I have found suitable substitutes for ( and by this, I actually mean that I enjoy the substitutes) for normal days, but I will still treat myself occasionally to the 'real' version of the foods. I know that as a big girl (I mean this as in the adult version of big girl), there are some foods that I should eat because they are good for me, even if I don't enjoy them so much. Some of these are to be good examples to my kids when it comes to eating certain green veggies that don't really do it for me.
This doesn't mean to me though that just because I want something right now that isn't part of my normal daily diet, that I will give in and have it today, sometimes I will if it fits for that day, or is more than just a thought of hey, __ sounds good, but more of a hey, if I don't have____ I will eat everything in sight until I have____. This does require me to be honest with myself though.
What are your thoughts?

I'm Bry and I approve this message.
(I mean, things are off limits to me right now, BUT only for the next 9 days, then back to moderation). Proceed.0 -

There are short periods of time where I will put things off limits. Cravings going out of control? I will lower my carbs and limit the types of carbs for a short time. I don't have a problem with short term off limit foods, but I will never eat this again (and it is something I like) is a problem for me.0 -
I agree with you. It seems to be working for me.0

moderation.........for most of us trying to lose weight is a confusing term. The truth is when it comes to food and more specifically "bad food" moderation means eat as little of it as possible that will make you happy. its a personal thing. if you really love pizza, saying "i will never eat pizza again" is a bold face lie to yourself and when you break that oath, it throws you off, causes dissappointment, depression and giving up, leading to more bad food choices.
if you are not going to be happy it will not be sustainable and you are ultimately setting yourself up for failure. if you could happily give up that pizza then all the power to you, but be realistic.0 -

For Me, I do believe in moderation in what I choose to eat. Some things I choose NOT to partake...those things are off limits, Example: Pork, White Bread. BUT Moderation means staying within My caloric intake. I have to LIMIT My Moderation, Example: Yesterday I feel like I ate A LOT of Candy (3 Tootsie Roll Minis, 2 Butterfinger Fun Size) BUT I did not go over My Total Calories for the day! I believe that subconsciously I kept in Mind My calorie limits and I had already planned My dinner, I had extra calories and filled them in a Fun way (Treat) for Me. 3/4 years ago I would NOT have stopped until I ate half the candy bowl, about 10-15 Fun Size Pieces! That shows how awareness of what you eat is so very important!0 -
I eat what I want, when I want it. There are things that I no longer eat - by choice, not because they are off limits (this includes fast food and drinking pop). I just do not enjoy them anymore. And honestly, if I'm gonna use up 1000 calories on a meal - I want it to be a huge plate of deliciousness and NOT something handed to me out of a small window.
I do try and counteract my sweet tooth with fruits and veggies - and I admit some days are far better than other days.
If I eat something and it pushes me over my calories I know that I have two choices:
A) Be over. I know for me, it won't kill me.Go to the gym and work it off.
Depending on how my day is going will depend on which option I choose.
Either way. I refuse to deny myself something - that is too much like a diet and not enough like a lifestyle change.0 -
I agree with you! The only thing(s) that are "off-limits" so to speak are things that I have not yet conquored portion control (mostly cracker of any sort, oh and tortilla chips). But I really really want to be able to eat 5 crackers or 18 chips someday!!
Oh and I don't drink pop or eat fast food... but that's because I think they are gross and unhealthy and have decided no to eat them... If I decide to get a burger and a coke it is not the end of the world!!!0
