Another Halloween Costume Before & After!

Last night, I ran in the Screamtown 5k in Scranton, and wore my pirate costume from last year. I'd have frozen my tushie off running outside after dark in this year's costume! It was an un-timed fun run. They sent out about 10 of us in waves, along a dimly lit trail, with two "flags" each attached to our hips. There were zombies along the way who'd chase us and try to get our flags. If you came back with both flags, you got three entries into the raffle for prizes. One flag, two entries. No flags, one entry. And they were those fast 28 Days Later zombies, not the lumbering Walking Dead!
I almost came back with one flag. I ran carrying a dagger and musket, which in retrospect, might not have been that smart if police saw me running with a knife and gun, even plastic ones. But then my husband messed me up. After we started running, he walked about a quarter mile or so down the trail, to try to get pictures of runners getting ambushed by zombies. Most didn't turn out, though, because a combination of fast runners and nighttime made photography difficult. Until THIS KNUCKLEHEAD came along, and slowed down and turned to ham it up for the camera... and ran SMACK DAB into a zombie! The very last zombie, and I lost my last flag!
So much fun to see and hear other folks screaming and jumping when the zombies came after us. I have four older brothers. Nothing phases me. I probably broke the poor zombie's unbeating hearts when I didn't so much as flinch at them.
I my costume. It's mostly hand-made, even the hat. The shirts (I wore a different one this year) were leftovers from the 1990s when The Puffy Shirt was briefly in style. Yes, I wore those shirts, in public, in normal everyday life.
Last year:
This year! I can't get over how much smaller my waist is!
Side by side... I didn't wear my hair extensions for the run. I was sweaty enough without 'em!
Before the run...
Hamming it up for the camera at the end of the run...
I had an "AHA!" moment looking at the pictures last night. I sometimes get down because when I look in the mirror, I don't think I look much different. I don't think I need to lose any more weight, but I still think, "I lost 35 pounds... and I don't see any change!" But then I realized... it's because THIS is how I what my mental image of myself always was. My outside finally matches my inside!!!

You look great! I love your costume! That race sounds like so much fun! I have never heard of a Halloween race like that. I wish they had something like that around here. I'm doing the Vampire Run this weekend in Fort Worth, but it's just costumes. No zombies! My race sounds kinda boring now! lol!0

Cute stuff!! I realized that in my photos from before the summer I've got a very plump face... I still see it in the mirror from time to time. Thank goodness for cameras and before photos! ;-P I'll probably be the only one to say that! ;-) Still love the coustume! I'm gonna wear one on Halloween that I had to SQUEEZE into this summer for the Renn Faire... I hope it's more comfortable now that I'm down 25lbs!!0

Love the costume! I see a big difference between the two photos, you look awesome in both to be honest. I wish we had a run like that around me! I would have SO much fun being dressed up and running from zombies! Fun!0

Congrats on the 35 lbs lost - you look amazing. What a difference. Also, that run sounded like alot of fun - I don't like Zombies, but it would make me run faster (lol).0

Thanks, everybody!YESSSSSSSSSSSSS. and i love how seriously you take halloween!
Halloween is to me what Christmas is to Santa. I'm squeezing every last drop out of this holiday, and use every opportunity under the sun to dress up. Happily, my family loves to play dress-up, too, so there's usually other costume parties throughout the year.
So far.... I've had my cousin's 60s themed birthday party (we were Emma Peel & John Steed from the Avengers), an 80s prom (I wore a gown I've had since I was 16 and dressed the husband in his kilt & do-rag as Axl), Warrior Dash (celtic warrior babe in mini-kilt and fur trimmed bikini top with woad), my Halloween party 2 weeks ago (I'm a Pict & he's a Viking), the Screamtown 5k (pirate), tomorrow night going out as the Pict & Viking again), and a zombie walk Saturday as Zombie Jay & Silent Bob, possibly going out Saturday night as the Spanish Inquisition.
There'll be parties in local bars & clubs Sunday & Monday night, but with the husband starting work at 7am... not gonna happen.0 -
Holy smokes-you can really see the difference! On the other hand, I would be terrified of that run.0
-
Great job!!! You look fabulous:-)0
-
Waist, yes, but your face. My, how it's changed.
Congrats on a wonderful transformation!0 -
How much stinkin fun is that?!!!0

I'm not going out tonight, but I want to redo the sugar skull makeup I did last year tonight when we get trick or treaters, and I'm gonna want to see if I make a better skull now that I have cheekbones and one chin again.
So I'm bumping this thread so I can find it later.0 -
