Exercise for super morbid obese

Hey, all the above advice is great, and I would agree with most of it...
I started out at 476 lbs, and would stick to walking.. That was my main form of exercise for the first 100lbs or so, when i hit 375lbs I discovered running, and the rest as they say was history!
Feel free to add me as a friend, and check my site out www.500lbs2marathon.com, contact me if u want to talk or have any questions..
Best of luck to you!!! This can be done!

i agree with what everyone else is saying. just try and walk a little longer each week start with a 5 minute walk, then do 10... 15, etc. when some of the pounds have come off, then consider changing it up a little bit. walking is great exercise and i think changing your diet will help a lot. actually sometimes people don't realize that overweight/obese individuals are sometimes not eating the right amounts of stuff and sometimes their calories actually put them into starvation mode. if you really want to do a more strenuous exercise maybe try sitting down and doing some punching in the air, and then increase the speed if it's too easy. it is great upper body workout. i also agree with talking to your doctor for a referral. i'm sure it's really hard to think of stuff right now but just imagine how great you will be feeling soon. good luck with your journey0

I started with walking as well when I was severely obese. Over time, you gain endurance and speed. Keep pushing yourself, but know your limits.0

I agree with all these comments:
-Get professional oversight
-Get your diet in order - not just calorie reduction, but making sure the calories you eat are good ones from "real" foods (which will also help you not feel deprived) including vegetables, beans, lean meats and dairy, with minimal salt
-Get in a pool if at all possible and move for as long as you can with reasonable comfort
-Walk as far as you can without killing your joints while moving your arms up and down (try slow-punching over your head or in front of you)
And one more thought:
Add arm strength training and at least stomach contractions if not crunches. Get cans of food or bottles of water if you do not have light dumbbells (3 - 5 pounds) and follow instructions for basic arm exercises, not pushing beyond what your joints can handle. I know at your size, diet comes first and will be the biggest key, and people can do well to start losing this way, but if you have a little bit of exercise - whatever walking and swimming you can do plus a couple of biceps curls or side flies, for instance - you may protect whatever muscle you do have, a bit, from being burned along with your fat, and this will help your metabolism in the long run as you lose more.

As someone who started the journey weighing 530 pounds, Walking is your answer. Walking, walking, walking, and walking. Even if it's only 5 minutes to start and then you can build up as you get more conditioned and drop the weight. I walked strictly for the first 150 pounds of my weight loss journey... walking and counting my calories... then I added in different exercises like biking and gym equipment. Take it one day at a time and remember to celebrate the small victories along the way. The first time you walk for a straight 10 minutes... pat yourself on the back. YOu got this!0
