Working out and mainting healthy hair...

Hair stylists suggest not washing your hair every day...more like every other or every 2 days to keep it healthy, keep the color, etc. How is this possible if you're working out every day...or at least 5 days a week? Does anyone have any suggestions? Or does everyone just say "screw it" and wash your hair after each workout?

I wash my hair every other day. On non wash days I just rinse it with water, maybe condition, and dry as usual.0

You can use a Dry Shampoo or baby powder on your off days as well. This will soak up oils and or sweat, refresh and deodorize. I'm a fan of the brand "Pssstt" ( I know weird name) you should be able to find it at Wal greens or CVS.0

i rarely wash my hair unless needed but then again i put my hair up for work.0

Before getting back on the workout wagon, I washed every few days and rinsed on off days. Now I have to wash every single day. I started using Wen haircare products and have found that my hair responds really well. It doesn't strip your hair like most shampoo's do. It's been a month now and my hair is softer and silkier than ever. I'd still prefer not to have to wash everyday, but unless someone has a better suggestion, I just can't see a way around it!0

If I didn't wash my fine hair every day, the weight of the natural oils alone would paste it to my head. I would suggest making sure you use a milder shampoo. The clearer the shampoo, the more it will strip away oils so go for the pearly looking shampoo. Also use a conditioner designed for your type of hair.... a conditioners job is to make the hair cuticle lay flat and to coat it against damage.0

I tend to wash my hair every day but use a gentle natural shampoo0

I say screw it, I feel like a giant grease ball if I don't wash my hair after a workout. I will however use cooler, luke warm water to rinse my hair out. Hot water tends to dry out my scalp and hair really bad so the luke warm water helps keep that from happening, even when I wash my hair a lot.0

I wash my hair every day. But i only use shampoo every other day, conditioner every day.0

Try dry shampoo. I've been trying the one by tresemme and I like it a lot. You just spray it in towards your roots, let it sit for a few minutes and brush your hair out. I usually let it sit about ten minutes in my DRY hair and it looks great.0

I wash everyday and managed to go from really thin (thanks to PCOS & Hypothyrodism) to nice hair, I switched to Nexus Shampoo and Conditioner and a Split end treatment everyday, and I rarely blow dry or curl my hair.0

It depends on what your hair is like. Not everyone has dry hair, oily hair, etc. I wash mine everyday but when I work out, I wash it twice a day. I have very healthy hair but I also take very good care of it making sure I get it cut when it's time, don't blow dry it everyday and I don't dye it. I would just take it day by day and if you feel like you need to wash it, then go for it. Best of luck!0

I wash my hair every other day but if I feel that it's really dirty I wash it daily. I use Herbal Essences shampoo and conditioner. Then I put on some leave in conditioner for dry hair. Also I only put one lather of shampoo, I don't repeat. I use a deep conditioning conditioner twice a week. It's really hard to have long healthy hair, specially when you're letting it grow, lol0

I just do not have time to wash it every day (my kiddos are in the Y program and I get two solid hours of blissful workout time, so I skimp on shower time and not workout time!). So I have started using Batiste dry shampoo. It works really for me. I sweat a great deal (I know, people are thinkin' I'm gross right now!), but the dry shampoo works well. Plus, by not washing my hair so much, I don't have to blow dry or dye it as often. I do love hair washing day though!! It's so shiny and smells soooo good! LOL!! When my hair is 'dirty' I can do some pretty fun styling techniques with it too...0

I have this same problem because when I workout, I get pretty gross and sweaty and I work in a "dress-up" job where I can't just throw it back and call it a day. I've tried dry shampoos, but those don't really work for me with thick hair and the gross-ness level that happens when I get a good sweat on. I have taken to using a gentler, sulfate free or color friendly (even if your hair isn't color treated, it's just easier on your head) shampoo and conditioner, and then once a week using a product such as Pantene's Intensive Restoration Treatment (they have one for thinner hair and one for medium to thick hair so you don't inadvertently make your hair greasy or weighed down) to combat the effects of heat styling.
In the summer and warmer weather when I could help it, I also avoided heat styling of any kind, since I have found that that does more damage than a few extra shampoos. Redken's heat styling mist has shown great results for me and I use it before flat ironing my hair. I live in a cold weather winter climate, so not blow drying is not an option for me in 10 degree winter weather and I usually add a little heat protection product to prevent damage from blow drying every day. Being gentler with the towel drying and using a wide-tooth comb or pick instead of tearing through it repeatedly with a brush is also an easy way to reduce the stress of the everyday shampoo and style. I have found that the shampooing is not nearly as hard on the hair as the other styling steps that come with it, so being conscientious of those other little things might help too.
Best of luck and hope this helped!0 -
I have naturally curly hair, so I only use shampoo once a week. But, i use a leave in conditioner or a light conditioner in the shower everyday. This helps with the "after gym" hair.0

Due to my job AND exercise I wash it everyday anyway! My hair is healthy0

My hairdresser tells me all the time I have very healthy hair and I wash it everyday. If I go a day without washing, it gets really greasy0

I wash every day when i workout, every other day I'll use baby shampoo instead of my regular shampoo.0

I wash my hair everyday, workout or not. It gets greasy if I don't. I've never had to use anything "special" either. Because I eat a LOT better than before, my hair is really VERY thick, and nice!0

I have very thick hair and I wash it everyday, because I feel gross if I don't. I noticed it was starting to look dull a while back. I ordered some jojoba oil online and I put it on once a week and let it sit before washing my hair. It keeps it from getting dry with all the washing and I rarely have to use conditioner anymore.0

I use conditioner every day and shampoo more like every other day unless I feel gross.0
