I don't buy it!

I remember once complaining to someone that my kids just seemed to eat a bunch of junk. Breakfast would consist of Cocoa Puff, Cap'n Crunch and stuff like that. The guy set me straight when he said, "Yeah, but who buys their food?" That hit me hard, realizing that they just eat what I buy them.

A while back I just didn't feel too healthy. In the past I was always hitting up the candy dishes on the desks of my coworker. At home I would just eat whatever was there. I realized that, just like my friend taught me years ago, it all starts with what I buy. I decided to think about what I should be eating...fresh fruits and vegetables...whole grains...none of all that processed stuff. When I went to the store I started buying a lot of all that. I found that if I surrounded myself with that at home (and had plenty of it handy at work) I could eat as much as I wanted and I was never hungry. When I eat I fill myself with so much healthy food I have lost cravings for most of the bad stuff (yeah I still look longingly at a few things). About a year ago, when I started jogging three times a week, my weight dropped to my ideal. This may not work for you (I think it might) but it worked for me. The key for me is I DON'T BUY IT!

It's good advice. No sense in keeping temptations around the house.
  • Agree 100% My children used to complain because I changed what I bought but they now simply grab an apple because it's there. They will adapt.

Yup, they will adapt or they will starve lol. I'm slowly trying to replace our bad snacks that we keep at home with the good stuff.

Its true. I do awesome as long as there is no junk around. When it is around i unfortunately have no self control.

Totally agree! Most kids will eat junk food and drink soda or kool-aid if it's in the house. We don't buy junk food either. The kids have gotten used to it.

Totally. I can't allow any junk or even high calorie healthier foods in my house because I WILL eat it, usually whether it's something I like or not!

Well done, getting your kids on a healthier track also.
  • I'm the same way. Or when we go out I'll order my healthy normal food and my bf will get something greasy. I'll take one bite and my craving is satisfied. We really don't buy any junk except his chips for lunch and they don't appeal to me at all anymore.

Case in point- I bought some candy to throw in with the bouncy balls/play-doh we're giving away on Beggars' night (trick or treat). ...of course I had to try one by which I mean 4.

Don't buy it and you won't eat it. My kids are equally happy to eat pop-tarts or apples, so I try to buy apples.
