Hi All,

Sorry if this seems like an absurd question; I'm new to posting on these forums but wanted to open up a general discussion about this supposed cleanse:

http://themastercleanse.org/

I've been working on keeping track of my calorie intake with MFP and have been incorporating movement more and more into my daily life, but was wondering if a cleanse like this would be a way to really help clean my system and keep me disciplined.

Do any of you have experience with this cleanse? Opinions about it's effectiveness?

Any insight would be greatly appreciated :)

Thanks!

  • I did it for 2 days, it's disgusting and even though I only did it for 2 days it did not make me lose any weight (not even water weight) and it left me feeling fatigues. I also love food to much, I'd rather him the gym for an hour then not eat any foods for a week (and some people do this cleanse much longer)!

My husband and I tried it several years back... It did NOT go well. The salt water made me vomit and my husband was in the bathroom all the time. If you do try it, be sure NOT to add the cayenne pepper until right before you drink it - it gets hotter and hotter if you put it in the lemon juice for any period of time... Big oops on our part. I just couldn't take the taste of the drinks and the salt water was awful. It was months before I could even look at a salt shaker without gagging. We made it three days on the cleanse. I will say on the 3rd day I no longer craved food, which was nice. I lost a few pounds but they came right back when we stopped. Best of luck to you!

I just came off of an 8 day juice fast (detox) and what I found out was that the weight comes off becuase you are emptying your system but as soon as you start eating solids again, the build up is back in your system so you might gain a pound or two from that. I had more energy after the 3rd day, but it was too difficult to continue any longer.

  • I did this cleanse...for three days. IT IS HARD...not to mention, it can be expensive. You need a LOT of ORGANIC lemons to follow this cleanse to the "T" and that adds up REALLY quickly...as does the fancy maple syrup.

I think I lost two pounds over three days...but quickly gained it back once you start incorporating real food back into your diet.

I wouldn't recommend it. You are constantly fatigued...and starving. And because you are starving, your entire thoughts are consumed about FOOD...and you get really mad at the people around you that are allowed to eat regular things... (or maybe that was just me?)

I agree with the person before me, I love food too much to do a cleanse. I'd rather spend an hour in the gym. Hope this helps..

I don't believe in doing anything extreme. A balanced diet and a commitment to portion control and exercise will be the key to any healthy lifestyle. I try not to think of being on a diet but as making a decision to eat healthy and work my body to make it the best it can be.
  • Hi Everyone,

Thanks for in the input -- it seems like opinions are largely against this, so I think I'll back off. I agree for sure that the gym or a nice walk is a great alternative, but was maybe hoping there was some sense of purity or cleanliness that would come out of doing something so extreme. I'll just go for fresh air instead of organic lemons.

Thank you all! It's great to be a part of such a supportive community :)

It's good to dexox toxic out of the body but I don't think it's a good tool to lose weight.
Most of people would gain the weight back and also overeat once they are off the cleanse
but a few did change their diet into vegetarian or raw food eater.
I think if you can switch your diet to vegetarian you will have successful to reach your goal.

If you goal is to have less craving, low carb is the way to goal.
I have less craving when I'm on low carb. I'm more control what I eat.
