Jack LaLanne. The man is a legend and a god.

1979 (age 65): towed 65 boats in Lake Ashinoko, near Tokyo, Japan. He was handcuffed and shackled, and the boats were filled with 6,500 pounds (2,900 kg; 460 st) of Louisiana Pacific wood pulp.

1980 (age 66): towed 10 boats in North Miami, Florida. The boats carried 77 people, and he towed them for over one mile (1.6 km) in less than one hour.

1984 (age 70): handcuffed, shackled, and fighting strong winds and currents, towed 70 rowboats, one with several guests, from the Queen’s Way Bridge in the Long Beach Harbor to the Queen Mary, 1 mile.

At 59, I'm already a senior? Oh, no!!! Say it ain't so!!! I'm walking, gardening, doing Billy Blanks' Tae Bo, and, for muscle tone, I'm using the Chalean Extreme DVD set. Together, it all seems to be working!

I am not there yet, but I do believe in yoga and pilates. Especially yoga. Start out with beginner's of course. Giamin (spell?) sells inexpensive DVDs at almost any discount store in the sporting goods section.

I saw a TV clip a couple years back of a lady in her 90's that teaches yoga. She used to be a dancer and modeled, never married. When she broke her hip, the doctors said she could never do yoga.....2 years later she is back teaching yoga. Swimming is also a safe exercise to age with if you know how to swim.

Stop calling yourself a senior! 60 is the new 40. Anything anyone else can do, we can do with modification. I do tapes once in awhile and while I can't follow every move all the way through, I sometimes surprise myself. Eventually, you will work up to doing it all. Just modify whenever its a strain. And stretch. I find that at our age, its not strength that is a hindrance, but flexibility.

If it gets me a discount, I'll be as "senior" as you want. I actually have the "active senior" membership at my park district fitness center-it amuses me to no end.
