Clothing styles you love!

Since we have a clothing style you hate thread, why not have a clothing style you love one?

I used to be a t-shirt-jeans-converse girl but I feel more confident now that i've lost weight. I'd like to try new styles, especially as I'm looking for a new job.

It can be something you like wearing or something you like to see on other people! Pictures welcome!

I like:

- Short wool dresses with leggings and tall boots
- Tartan shirts with fitted jeans and tall boots
- 1950s/1960s skirts and dresses
- For men, bow ties (of course) and kilts. I know Scots don't wear kilts on a daily basis but it's probably one of the most virile (and sexy) outfits in my eyes!

I want it to be the 1950's.

I want to dress like Don Draper from Madmen.

Above all, I want to wear a hat and not look pretentious.

Ahah, yes. Don Draper is the epitome of male elegance. Even the way he puts his hat on is classy!

Being a Scottish girl I have to agree 100%......nothing sexier. My hubby had full kilt outfit at our wedding, even though he's English - his Grandparents were Scottish so he was allowed - all the guys looked so yummy!!

I used to be a jeans and tops girl (and heels!!), but now that I'm losing weight I'm going for more girly clothes, tea dresses, pretty little tops etc, plus I also like a bit of sharp tailoring. I live in Dubai and we have a textile souq that sells the most amazing material and the tailors are incredible too!!
  • - Maxi skirts & dresses
    - Oversized jumpers/tops/blouses with skinny jeans or leggings (only leggings if the top is long enough!)
    - Sheer tops
    - Animal jumpers/knits
    - Ditsy/vintage prints
    - I love love love vintage clothing, especially long pleated skirts and 50s style dresses
    - Anything rust, camel, beige, peach, cream, gold (this is pretty much the colour palette of about 90% of my wardrobe)
    - Vintage inspired accessories

18th century. I'm talking farthingales and tabbed corsets.

Edwardian! What's not to love? Bustles and S shapes for the win!

    1930's glamour movie star.

I'm also kind of fond of greek chitons.

Oh, I'm sorry. Did you mean modern clothing?

I love loose cashmere sweaters paired with mini skirts and either over-the-knee socks or tights.

I love shiny stuff and lots of lace and detailing~Here in Japan fur scarves are very popular right now, and I love them! ^^

Ditto, maybe a tad earlier for me, love to be like Jimmy Stewart, Humphrey Bogart or Cary Grant. Would love for the ladies to have their hair and dress in 1940s style (1950s got a little too homemaker), just one of the many reasons this was the greatest generation!

Marlene Dietrich, Veronica Lake, Donna Reed (one of my all time favorites!) Lauren Becall....They just don't make'em like that anymore!

And how did seamed stockings ever go out of vogue??

And it is not like I grew up in that era, I am only 45!

I am more into grungey/rock look. The majority of my wardrobe is black - black boots, black trousers, a white top/grey jumper with a leather jacket. Sorted!

I do have a soft spot for the 40's glamour when I need to dress up for an event.

    Everything in NY & CO!
  • I love jeans, especially skinny jeans; more so now that I'm thin! I put on my profile under inspirations skinny jeans & bikinis-sounds shallow, but I worked hard to lose the weight, and I'm still working hard to maintain my current weight.. I like things that are more fitted-I love the shrunken blazers, with jeans, skirts or pants. I also love pencil skirts-very "Mad Men"!! Mini skirts work on me-I'll wear them as long as I can!! Especially with tights & knee high boots they look work appropriate. What else? I don't wear anything oversize anymore-I'm not hiding anything!! I DO love the long cardigans, especially with a fitted tank, with skinny pants or skirts-they make me feel taller!

I guess you could call me a clothes *kitten* now!! I'd rather be a size 4 than eat junk food-and I'd rather buy new clothes than cheesecake!! Hehehe!!

    Absolutely, he's the man. I'm totally hetero-sexual, but if I wasn't..........

Hats. I miss hats on both men and women. Humphrey Bogart hats, Lena Horne hats, top hats, derby. Big or dainty. (Some of the hats from the recent royal wedding were kind of weird. ) Indiana Jones without a hat? never!
I especially like the little jewel of a hat with a bit of net or a feather. My daughter made her own hat for her wedding and it was fantastic.

I guess my taste for men's and women's clothing is the same ... refined sexy. I know suits aren't practical for every man (my dad is a cattle rancher ... he's only worn a full suit twice in my lifetime: my brother's and sister's weddings), but, to me, nothing is sexier than a well-groomed man in a well-cut suit.

Examples of things I love for women:

Pencil skirts. I think they are one of the sexiest things a woman can wear because the line of a pencil skirt accentuates a woman's hips with every step she takes. But it's a demure kind of sexy that leaves something to the imagination and is appropriate for many settings.

For a more Katharine Hepburn/Marlene Dietrich look, I also love silk halter tops (not the cleavage-baring, low-back style ... the high-neck kind that focuses all the attention on the shoulders and collar bones) with fitted black tuxedo pants, complete with the satin stripe down the side. Classy but sexy.

My feeling is that tasteful clothing never goes out of style. I spend a lot of money on clothes and shoes, but I do not have anything in my closet that would be unwearable 20 years from now, in terms of quality or fashion.

I definitely love the Mad Men look for guys, and I think this is a perfect example of what I said above ... back in those days, people dressed as though they would be judged based on their appearance (because they were). People dressed as well as they could afford to at all times, so quality craftsmanship was demanded from clothiers. That's why people still admire that style of dress. The clothing was well-made, and the people looked good wearing it.

These days, people don't take as much pride in their appearance, so the middle-class clothing market is flooded with cheap, unstructured garments that look tacky on pretty much everyone. People will buy this stuff because they just don't care. And because no one cares, everyone just throws on whatever some fashion editor says is popular at the moment and ends up replacing their entire wardrobe every year because nothing they bought last year is "in style" anymore.

Agreed! My husband doesn't get to wear one often, (he works in the trades) but I wish he would!

    Yes.

I end up wearing a lot of jeans and t's, hoodies, etc. but as far as style goes she nailed it. If something reminds me of her I'm much more likely to buy it.
