How much tea is too much?

I know green tea is healthy, but I like black tea. I traded about 3 cups (assuming a true cup is 8 oz) of coffee a day for about 4 cups of tea. If I'm not bothered by any "buzz" or caffeine effects, is there any reason to try to curtail this habit? I don't add sugar or honey or anything to it except a little milk.

Nope. It doesn't dehydrate you, either caffeinated or decaf, and as long as you account for any calories it's all good! Stops you needing to drink pure water too!0

Too much tea prevents the absorbtion of iron into the blood I know this cos my midwive nagged me to cut back.0

Black tea is just as good for you as green tea! Drink up!0

I have found that black tea gives me constipation. It's known to be an astringent so you might want to see if it has that affect on you. Other than that, I don't think there are any drawbacks. I love tea! Wish it loved me back.0

I'm a long-time black tea drinker, and I love it -- you gotta have 1 vice, right???
Seriously, it does have some good health benefits, it tastes good, and less caffeine than coffee. Go for it.
The only downside I've heard of is for people that are very prone to kidney stones -- the tannens (sp??) in black tea sometimes cause more of them.0 -

I have had issues with iron in the past due to regular blood donations, but this isn't an issue for me currently. The question is, what is "too much" tea?0 -
I LOVE black tea but I did find that the caffeine content contributed to my blood pressure being a bit high. When I cut down to no more than 2 cups a day (usually just 1), my blood pressure went down, too. As long as you're monitoring this aspect of it carefully, though... like everyone says, black tea has so many benefits, so drink up!0

Taking over 6 cups a day can cause palpitations (when you can hear your heart beating or irregular heart beating) due to caffeine overdose. The recommend 3-5 cups.0

Add lemon to it instead, milk destroys the anti-oxidants in the tea!0

Too much... tea? Blasphemy. If you need less caffeine and all the benefits, try white tea. Black tea is great, but it's true that adding milk takes away some of the benefits. However, some people can't stomach plain black tea, so milk is fine if you need it.
Obviously don't use a lot of sugar, because added sugar + a lot of tea per day = a lot of added sugar in a day
And I'd hardly call excess tea a vice... just look at the Asian cultures, who consume tons of it and have long touted its health benefits... and the Irish, who are the #2 tea consumers per capita in the world! (Though it's probably to help with the hangovers from being the #2 consumers of beer per capita in the world ;3)0 -

Thank you for the specific info. I also saw about the milk, I can cut that out and do plain. My current favorite is Ahmad's Peach and Passionfruit, so I don't really need to add anything to it to be happy. I want to try some of their other fruit flavors, like blackcurrant or raspberry. If you don't know and are a big tea drinker, you can get cases (usually means 6 boxes) on Amazon for a lot less than buying at the stores individually. And if you choose to "subscribe" and have it autoship on a schedule of anywhere from 1-6 months (your choice) you get an even bigger discount. I'm getting 6 boxes for $13 instead of $4.50 each - that's roughly half price!0 -
I am just recently becoming a tea fanatic,I will definately check out that deal on amazon, it sounds like a fantastic deal and the flavors sound delicious, amazon is the best place for buying anything! :P
I am green tea addict-I just did reserach yesterday about the tea and it astounded me. The reason it's so healthy is because it's processed differently than other teas, it's steamed so it doesn't destroy the compound that has all the anti-oxidant benefits-it goes as far as preventing cancers and heart disease/stroke/heart attack, and that just a tiny bit of the benefits, that totally made me fall in love with it even more.
I also read up about adding lemon to your green tea (or any tea) and the benefits are fantastic! I found some delicious green tea flavors-one with pomegrante and different berries-sooooo yummmy and tastes delicious with added lemon juice-double yum!! :P
Here check this post I wrote out about benefits of adding lemon to your tea& benefits of green tea:
