Is Crystal light the same as, better than or worse than drinking water?

I gave up sodas, and drinking water is so much better, but using Crystal Light makes it 1000 times easier to drink (8) 8oz of water a day !
Just watch the sodium in them and most are only 5 calories per serving. a serving= 8oz0 -
I think it is ok in moderation. But it does not replace water.0

I asked my doc this and she said unless you have negative reaction to artificial sweeteners it is just like water.
I like the MIO better though and it's handier.0 -
I love crystal light but if I drink too much of it I get love handles and love handles are never good.0

Crystal light is fine, but you have to remember that it does have alot of chemicals, and alot of aspartame. Which is not good for your body.0

I drink the kind with Stevia or truvia in it. The other one's I don't drink.0

Your adding an artificial sweeter to a natural product. That being said you have to weight the fact that you may be increasing your water intake which is a good thing with the fact that your also increasing your intact of an artificial sweetener. Some studies have shown that these sweeteners can actually make you gain weight because without the calories they interfere with the natural process of feeling satisfied causing an increased craving for sweets and carbs. Basically your body expects a carb and find nothing instead and then feels robbed and wants more.0

Personally, I do not count it as part of my water intake.0

You could try adding lemon or lime slices (or both), I have also added sliced fresh strawberries or fresh raspberries...nice flavor and nothing artificial added! :drinker:0

My doctor and nutritionist both told me so long as it doesn't have caffeine I can count it towards my water intake. I personally use Crystal Light in almost all my water, otherwise I gag trying to get it down. I also drink a ton of decaffinated tea with splenda.0

If I have a 32oz water bottle filled to the brim with water and mix in a packet of Crystal Light, I'm counting it as 32oz of water. The water didn't magically disappear because I added powder to it.0 -

Me too. I started out drinking Crystal Light (when I was dropping the diet soda addiction cold turkey) but I don't think the aspartame agreed with me. IDK. I tried a couple of different brands of similar stuff and found that I really like the Archer Farms water flavoring packets sold at Target - they are flavored with Stevia. I like the flavor better, and Stevia comes from a plant so you people can't say you're drinking an artificial sweetner. LOL
I do count it as water - I can't stand plain water unless I'm in the midst of a workout, so flavoring it is the only way for me to make myself drink something other than caffeinated diet sodas. I usually drink 4-5 x 16oz bottles each day, so 4-5 packets of flavoring, and they have calcium added which is awesome since I'm still breastfeeding my youngest. :-)0 -
Every ounce of water I log to my diary is either mixed with a crystal light type drink or a protein powder. You've seen both sides of the argument in this thread. The key is your are still getting water and hydrating yourself. The information about aspartame making you crave more sweets and carbs is from a study however it was a theory developed to explain the conclusion not the target of the study itself. Ultimately as long as you stay within your calorie goals then you've got no worries.0

I only ask this question because I noticed tht crystal lite does have calories in it. But I do love it to death. I mix fruit punch and lemonade!!!! Taste just like look aid minus the sugar0

If it doesn't contain sodium and less than 10 cals I count it as water intake. Works for me.0

I log the water but I also log the flavoring packets. The ones I use add a total of 50 calories per day most days (10 calories in each packet) and 10 glasses of water (5 x 16 oz bottles). There's no way I'm going to not log 80 oz of water just b/c I put some water flavoring in it. LOL But I do account for the calories etc that come from the flavoring too.0
