I am about to pull my hair out! Last Saturday I was at 196.4 then i jumped to 198 by that monday! I went back to 196.4 on wednesday but now I am at 197.6 as of this morning! So that means that In one week I have only netted a 0.4 loss!!! I have not jumped around like this since I started. It has been a slow steady decrease of 1-2 lbs a week. Now all of a sudden I am stuck jumping back and forth from 196-198!! This happens EVERY time I try to lose weight NOW MATTER WHAT I DO. No matter how much I weigh to start either. Once was 200, then 215, now 225 was my start and no matter what I never get past 195!!! I was afraid this was gonna happen this time and it looks like it is. I have tried doing more exercise, did that for a week and no change, I tried uping my cals a little and that did not do any good either....I DON'T KNOW WHAT TO DO! What should I do!?

The most important thing is don't panic! It's completely normal for weight to fluctuate or to stall completely! I had this for almost a month, either a static weight or a higher one.

Just keep on doing what you're doing. Even though your weight is fluctuating, it WILL start to drop again. It sounds like you're hitting a plateau and the thing with those is just not to give up! It's usual for your weight to fluctuate and it can even go up or down between 2-5lbs in a DAY which can be either a woohoo moment or a d'oh one! :) It could also be water retention depending on what you're eating.

Hang on in there, this will pass and you'll be back on track in no time. :)
  • Your probably just having a bad week or when you loose alot of weight at one time sometimes which we all do hit a plateau..just switch up your exercise and next week will be a better week..you got this...don't let the scale discourage you:)

If you figure it out let me know, I have same problem! I think if you try being really strict for a week with diet and add in some extra cardio it might work. I normally eat 1500 but one week I ate 1200 and rode bike for an hour every day and lost 4lbs.

It happens. Sucky I know but it does. Its only been one week. There's no need for panic just yet. Most people get stuck at some point. Some stay stuck for weeks then it moves again.
The up and down you experienced during the week are normal bodily fluctuations. The fact is that you lost 0.4. Its not much but you did lose. Therefore you're not really stuck, you've just slowed down this week. As I said, it happens. Don't panic and stick with it.

I hear yall, but I know how I fluctuate normally. I weigh every morning at the same time and at night at the same time and over the course of the day I will "gain" anything from 1-2 lbs...this is what yall call water weight or whatever...by the next morning it is back down to what it was the previous morning or even lower if I have lost....this is my normal. It happens exactly like that for like 3 months now. and the 2 times it was higher than the 2 lbs at the end of the day I KNEW it would be gained weight and it was. It would take me a few days to get it back to where it was before the jump. This is a "STUCK" moment. It will just jump around until I either give up and start gaining again or something happens and I start losing again...but I have never done that...I always started gaining again......so yall think if I just keep doing what I was to lose up till now that eventually it will start dropping again?

I played with the same pound for almost a month. Losing .5, gaining 1, losing 1, gaining .5... etc. etc. etc. I stuck with it though and then all of a sudden lost 4 lbs in one week. Just stay with it, don't give up. :)

Yes, totally agree..bodies can be finicky...just a crazy time we all have to deal with..I go up and down..and yes can get depressing..sometimes i feel bloated, sometimes i feel thin, and by morning...I always look like I lost weight in the mirror prior to hitting the scale..and nada...but I know it will happen...my clothes feel sooo much bigger..and I feel great..

Think about it...."Don't you feel great in your clothes, now?" I love how my clothes feel kinda "gangsta"..bahahaa..sooo loose they are about to fall off my hips..

Anyhow...tell us your workout routine? Please..Pm me too..so i know when to acknowledge you...thanks!

Well, Sis, I checked your food diary..and seems like your eating a ton of processed foods...you went over your cals quite a few times this week..and sodium also..

Here's what you can do..is load up on protein, such as lean meats (chicken breasts, sirloin, turkey, etc..), veggies can help fill you up faster...whole grains also...Greek yogurts, cheese, nuts..can help on the protein as well..make sure to watch your sugar and sodium intake...

    And drink your water

Yea I did that on purpose...I upped my cals a bit but didn't bother changing it cause I plan to go back down soon. I know about the processed food but sometimes that is all I have to eat. I don't get to go to the store much and I don't have a lot of money.

If you give up you'll definately gain. If you stick with it you'll lose the weight eventually. Its a no brainer really isn't it?

I've been going up and down that same 7lbs for over a year because of an over active social liife  Friends think I'm amazing that I haven't given up. That I still go to the gym 5 times a week and keep plugging away. I tell them that I would rather stay like this than go back to where I was. I'm not giving up because I am never ever going back.

Your food/exercise journal isn't public, so it's hard to give an opinion.
    But.
You "upped your calories a bit"...for what reason? Because you thought you were at a plateau and someone said to do that?
When you "up" calories, you also have to "up" exercise frequency and/or intensity and/or add strength training. You can't just walk on a treadmill at 3.0 for 20 minutes and east 200 more calories...especially processed ANYthing....and expect the scale to reflect a magically low number.
Do you have an exercise plan? Or a nutrition plan? Not just keeping track of what you eat, but something that has been formulated ahead of time to show a total amount of calories per day with appropriate ratios of protein, carbs and fat (the "macros") to create a caloric deficit.
Just because you keep track does NOT mean you get to go over, unless its planned and there is a reason for it. For example, if you find you are steadily losing 2 pounds a week with an exercise intensity/frequency to support that and then for about 3 weeks you don't see any change at all, you may need to add a day or a level of intensity to your exercise. Not food.
But if you are losing too fast, you may not be getting enough calories and you may need to add in some calories, purposefully, to slow that down. NOT a snickers bar, but perhaps a half cup of oatmeal and 2 more egg whites.
Fresh, whole foods are way less expensive per pound than processed foods. For example, buy ground turkey and a container of tofu and make your own 4 ounce turkey patties, freeze them and then you know what you are getting and how much. Makes tracking it much simpler and accurate.Cider vinegar, plain brown mustard and some Truvia with a little garlic powder makes a great no calories tangy dressing..cheap, too.
    Don't like turkey or tofu?
Family packs of chicken breasts or ground chicken meat is cheap, too and freeze equally well. Cans of tuna...even albacore...is a great source of protein, portable and versatile.
Please don't be offended by my tone. You may be doing all these things, but it sounds more like you are sitting on the sidelines and watching as your body does what it wants to do, without you really being involved at all.
Get in there and fight for what you want.
  • I think you're weighing too often and too wrapped up in the numbers. Our bodies fluctuate a lot, dependent on several factors.

Try weighing once a week and see if you feel better?

If you can't see my journal and what I am doing then how are you gonna say it sounds like Im sittin on the side lines...I upped my cals because I think that I may actually burn more than I give myself credit for and I was hungry a lot....and tired..I wanted to see if an extra 100-200 would balance me out more and get things going again while making me feel better...

Huh? I don't get what you're saying here as you have lost 49#, right? So, obviously, you are losing.
......so yall think if I just keep doing what I was to lose up till now that eventually it will start dropping again?

Yes! Nothing wrong with tweaking a bit if you think you could improve your nutrition or exercise plan but you are obviously doing something right due to losing 49#.

I think you need to quit worrying so much about the scale. Only weigh 2-3 times per month,or even less. It's not a race, it's a lifestyle change.
