My husband took it years ago. Powdered stuff, in a shake, right?
Also ate lots of tuna for protein. Lifted weights.
It worked for him for bulking up muscle.

    thanks
  • Hi! I add about a teaspoon to my water I drink during kickboxing class. It might be all in my head or just getting into the routine of exercising more often, but I do notice I have less delayed-onset muscle soreness. Not sure if that's what your looking to get from taking creatine though.

Creatine works if you follow the directions. It is extra important to drink extra water while you take it. It helps your muscle cells retain water, so you should notice increase size and weight right away, but most of that is water. But the fact that it makes you look better motivates you also. It also helps your muscles to recover quicker from hard workouts.

Creatine isn't used for muscle building or recovery. That's not its function in the human body and will never produce those results.
Creatine is the first substance used for energy production. It produces a burst of energy that lasts a couple seconds. You may or may not see an increase in power, which is explosive strength. Power is also a neurological function, so if that's not developed, the creatine won't do anything. As has been previously mentioned, it will cause water retention, so you might gain a bit of (artificial) size and weight.
When you take creatine, you need only 'load' for a few days. Once the muscles are saturated, you don't need to take as much to maintain the level of creatine. Excess will be excreted. In my opinion, it's not worth the money unless you're already trained and are a competitive Oly lifter.

I have a question about creatine too. I recently bought whey protein that had it added in. I didn't notice until I got it home and was disappointed because I've heard bad things about it. Are there any bad side effects from using it? I've read the same about it adding water to your muscles so I hope that I don't gain weight that way.

    Nope, excess is easily excreted.
It will make you gain water weight, but if it's not fat, who cares? You'd lose it once you stopped supplementing.
