Which American region reigns supreme...

Grits = ground hominy, used as a hot breakfast cereal or as a side dish like rice. Common to the southern U.S. coastal states.
Many have said the south for barbecue - this is understandable since barbecue season is very long in the southern U.S. Be aware that barbecue styles will vary as you go throughout the south. For example, it is sweeter as you get further east and spicier/less sweet as you get toward Texas. There are obviously exceptions and variations, but that is the trend.
The Louisiana-Mississippi gulf coast is great for Creole/Cajun cooking as well as seafood in general.
Texas has great Tex/Mex food. You get some interesting local variations as you go through the different parts of the state. Stay out of the chain restaurants. They are no where near as good as the locally owned Taquerias. The Texas Hill country around the New Braunsfel and Fredericksburg area has some really good German food. Tour the Spoetzel brewery in Shiner, Texas.0 -

Chicago has great hot dawgs, but I am jonesing to try the fried hot dogs in Jersey i have heard of... Oh yeah, Southern Louisiana taught me to love grits, and after reading all of this I never realized how much I love food. That is all I can think of.0
