Hi everyone I've been a member of "myfitnesspal" for just over two weeks or so. In order to stick with my food diaries and keep in contact, I thought to introduce myself.
My name is Tanya and I'm 32 years old. I have two kids (boy - 4, girl 3) and live in Sydney, Australia. Two years ago I started my weight loss journey and lost 40lb within an 8 month period. After that, the weight stayed stable for just over a year before it dropped again due to medical treatments. I was diagnosed with pre-cancer of the breast and had radiation for it. I've put back on some of the weight I lost from the radiation, but am now looking to stay healthy and curb any emotional eating or overindulgences.
Apart from the previous medical condition, I was also diagnosed with "hyperprolactinemia" (over-production of prolactin from the pituitary gland) due to a pituitary tumour, and this has only been found just in the last week. My Doctor has said that I need to tone down overt physical exertion (including exercise) as I don't supposedly have the right balance of hormones in order to sustain it. But I can do light exercise like walking and swimming (I LOVE weight training, but won't be doing it lol). Until both of these conditions are treated I'm concentrating on the food aspect side of things.
I would also love to find some new friends and find support from others who have health ailments and are trying to maintain, lose or gain weight. It is lovely to meet all of you, and I wish you luck on your journey!

hi my name is sharon. i live in bella vista arkansas. i have h.i.v. disease, asthma, high blood pressure and i use a cane to walk and stand for long periods of time. my weight used to be really low too. i had to force myself to eat. i got on some good meds and now i eat all the time. mostly out of boredom and the fact that i am physically ill if i don't eat every 2 to 3 hours. before i found this site i had gotten up to 227 pounds and i am short. so it wasn't good. i didn't have my cane then and i fell alot because my meds caused nerve damage in my feet, legs, hands and arms. (nice side affects) but at least i am alive. my mom had breast cancer about 6 years ago. it's still hard for her too to keep weight on. i feel for both of you. are you allowed to do chair exercises and use some light weights for toning while you are sitting down? i know you want to be healthy and want to be fit. please don't be stubborn and do more than your doctor directs. you could do yourself more harm not doing as he says. take care of yourself.0

Hi Sharon, lovely to meet you I wish you all the best with myfitnesspal and hope you find some wonderful support in here.
I was having some problems keeping weight on for a while after the radiation. When I put the weight on again, I thought that it had been to do with a change of my diet (as I used to be Vegan and went back to Omnivorous eating). It turned out that the only reason there had been weight gain was because of the hormone over-production. Now I've been told to watch how much fat I eat (no more than 40 grams a day), and curb carbs by sticking them into portion sizes. At the moment I'm in a healthy weight range which is terrific, but they still fear that any "sudden" or extreme amounts of weight gain at one time can put strain on the pancreas leading to diabetes. I would REALLY love to do some weights and as you mentioned I could do some light weights just for toning, but they have said no in most cases as I work casual delivering grocery goods for a large chain. You climb in and out of the truck, climbing into the back cabin and pulling off the goods at a maximum weight of around 35-40lb in one hit.
Because I already get that exercise on most working days, they want the body to rest in between. Due to obvious occupational reasons I continued heavier weight training so I could cope with working demands. There is nothing worse than having a pulled or torn muscle because it wasn't conditioned to take the load. But I'm finding any exercise (minus walking and general day to day activities) too taxing and tiring after doing my shifts. If the other health issues don't improve over the coming weeks and I don't get treatment soon for the pituitary I've been told they (Dr) will put me off on leave for an indefinite amount of time so I can catch up with rest. He did say I could consider doing more exercise then, but not while I do this job which is pretty understandable.
I'm also short by the way at 5'1. Good things come in small packages! :P0
