No scientific studies were found in support of 8 × 8...... peer-reviewed journals, strongly suggest that such large amounts are not needed because the surveyed persons were presumably healthy and certainly not overtly ill. [quote/]

A close read of this article reveals that it is dated (am not saying it is not rigorous, but with an '02 publication it is old, scientifically) and it seems to focus on the premise that we need 8 cups of water daily to be healthy. The separate issue -- the benefits of increased water consumption for weight loss -- are not touched in this article that I can see. Further, there is the simple biological reality that human water balance is a function of water in (via liquid consumption) = water out (via urination). Hence, you don't have to drink 8 cups to be healthy...but it does help for weight loss and I personally don't know any healthy and vigorously active people who don't exceed this recommendation with their daily water intake.
  • You can find an argument for or against anything. If you don't want to drink the 8 glasses of water, then don't.

Someone posted this last week and it is an awesome article.

    Good luck to you!

I have had other experts tell me 1/2 oz of water for every pound of body weight... which puts me at over 100 oz a day. I have a 24 oz glass and I fill it up five times a day. I have one before work, three at work, one after work. It took a bit to get used to that much but I can really feel the difference when I am short on water. Of course, work meetings need to me limited to 60 minutes:drinker:
