Hi, can anyone tell me what causes my joints, mainly knees & neck, to click all the time whilst exercising? Its doesn't hurt but it feels uncomfortable. Is there anything i can do or take to help it? Ty x

I don't know, but my right elbow does it too, when I do bicep curls. Hopefully someone knows.
  • My hip joints crack something terrible and I have some pain while exercising. I have no idea why.

It could be one of several things depending on what the "clicking" sounds like. It it sounds more like a "pop" such as popping you knuckles. This comes from over stretching the joint capsule and the bones sliding excessively over each other. Popping may also be caused by a tendon or ligament being pulled out of place and thus clicking as it slides out of its groove. These are both caused by muscle weakness and/or improper form. For you knees always squat with you butt sticking out like your about to sit in a chair. Do not allow you knees to go forward. Keep you knees behind you toes. For the person who commented on her elbows popping make sure you elbows are directly bellow your shoulders, not in front of you shoulders. Also watch you wrist placement as this may cause your popping. Keep you palms up to work Biceps, palms facing towards each other for bracial radialis.

Finally painful clicking and/or locking of you knees can be a miniscal tear. This will require a CT scan to confirm and may require minor surgery to repair.

Yes, I get a grinding sound coming from my right knee, too. It's fine when I'm walking and okay when running and cycling, too. It really only does it when I climb stairs. I've had it since earlier this year (before I started working out regularly) and working out has not made it any better (or worse) and 4 months of MSM/Chondroitin/Glucosamine/Omega3 and 6s have had no benefit, either. Also, it doesn't hurt at all. If anything, if I couldn't hear it I'd be completely unaware of it. But it's such a horrible crunching sound it actually sets my teeth on edge when I hear it.

It's not painful but its not nice is it guys?! Thanx so much for the info Diamond x I also have started takin omega 3 tabs whether it will help or not i do need supplements. I've noticed when i exercise the joints more & workouts that put pressure on my knees, it gets worse. I really try 2 keep good posture & do it right, maybe i need to concentrate more & not get complacent? Hopefully if i build up muscle then the clicking will lessen do u think?
