Need advice!

hey everyone- need some suggestions or thoughts. I woke up this morning after a kink in my neck with ringing in my left ear- can't hear out of it(odd) and can hear from my right but it is as if I'm under water. I am recovering from a nasty cold but never had this before. It is awful. This ringing is enough to drive me crazy. I get up to walk and I get dizzy. I took a motrin for muscle relaxing and sudafed for the fluid that may be in my ears. I don't know if I should go do acute care on a sunday or hold off until tomorrow(monday) to see an ear dr and possibly may be better by then? any thoughts is greatly appreciated. A bit nervous about my ears-don't need some disease or hearing problem to develop.

I'm NOT a doc, but it sounds like you have an ear infection. If you have a heating pack, warm it up and put in on your hurting ear. That should help the pain/ringing til tomorrow, and you won't have to pay out the ear for the acute care place on a Sunday. Hope you feel better soon!0

you do have fluid build-up in your ears that is probably the resutl of having a bad cold. You may also have a sinus infection. You coud consider using Saline Nasal Spray. Talk to your doc about it when you go. It helped me with a bad sinus/ear infection and I am sure it will help you too. Saline Nasal Spray is over-the-counter and is completely harmless.0

Sounds like classic symptoms of a middle ear infection/fluid that can occur after a cold virus. Taking a decongestant such as Mucinex D and pain relievers such as Advil can provide some relief until you see a doctor (the doctor may need to prescribe antibiotics if there is bacterial infection). Also, try to prop up your head/neck/back (semi-seated position) as you sleep to help your eustacian tube drain and avoid being around smoke which can reduce the chance of the tube getting infected/fluid-filled.0

If you have a cold, I agree with above. It may be a sinus infection or ear infection. Try hot shower, saline spray in your nose and a decongestant. I like mucinex. Then if you still feel bad in am, call you MD. Feel better!0

Steam, steam, steam. Boil water, put it in a bowl, put a towel over your head, inhale steam. You can also put herbs in the water, rosemary, oregano, thyme, all together or just one. Also, sage tea. Dried or fresh, boil water and put in the sage. Let it steep for 15 minutes. Strain and add honey and lemon. Sage naturally dries you up, but be careful. It is strong. Nursing mothers should not have Sage tea as it can stop lactation.
Get a bottle with a dropper, put in some olive oil, and run it under hot water until the oil is warm, (about 5 minutes). Lie down on your bed with a small towel, bad ear up, and put a drop or two in your sore ear. The olive oil will soothe it. The warmth will feel good. After two minutes , turn your head to the other side and let the oil drain out.

I agree, you probably have an ear infection. If you also had a kink in your neck, that could be a contributing factor. If you can, I would see a chiropractor for an adjustment. Many times that's enough to get things moving in the right direction again.0

Try this...Lay flat on a harder surface, turn your head as far to the left as you can, hold for 20 seconds then slowly turn it to the right as far as it will go, again hold for 20 seconds, return to looking straight up for a minute, stand up slowly...Hope that helps...sometimes does the trick. A Dr. did that for me a few times. BUT...I have also been diagnosed with Meniers disease. Which is a constant ringing or roaring in my left ear with a 85% hearing loss, and vertigo. Hope it's something simple...Good luck!0
