I have been taking longer runs lately I need to have some type of hydration system for these long runs. I have a belt but I really don't like it, it is too bulky for me and won't stay on my hips... I was wondering what you guys might use.. do you like the camel back packs? I am hoping to find something light weight... and if it is a belt design, something that stays put on my hips.. I don't like things around my waist.

I've been looking for a good solution for this too - and have come up with an "okay" one!
I just use a cheap old bumbag (fanny pack if you're in the US, sorry Aussies and Brits) and carry a plastic waterbottle. I have it fairly low around my hips and put it in the small of my back and this is pretty comfortable for long runs.
It looks completely dorky, but does the job, and also has a pocket for keys, jelly beans etc.
I've been wondering about the camel backs but I think it would be too hot and sweaty now I'm headin into summer.
  • I use a waist system that has 2, 10-ounce bottles on it. They do make some that are more the fanny-pack style (less elastic). They also make water bottles that have a small strap, so you hold it in your hand, the strap goes around the back of your hand. A camelback will likely not be light-weight unless you only fill it part way. I prefer my waist one as I can't stand having anything in my hand while running.

Handheld bottle for shorter runs (30 -60min).
Waist pack with 28oz bottle for runs up to 60-70 minutes.
Camelbak for 70+ minute runs (70oz).

I have a fabulous belt and I have been through about 4 of them before I found one that actually worked. The one I have is an iFitness Belt and I love it ... it stays put ... gives me hydration as well. The bottles go in and out easily with one hand ... and the pouch fits my phone, food, and salt tabs!

I have a Nathan fuel belt with 2 ten ounce bottles. It stays down pretty well if I tighten it and push it down over my hip bones. My son uses a Camelbak and likes it but I don't like all that weight on my back bouncing around.

I should add, I only use the fuel belt for longer runs. I'll carry a bottle for anything up to three miles. I've also been known to put a water bottle at the bottom of my driveway and just take drinks as I swing by for another 2 mile loop.

    I use this:
    http://www.camelbak.com/Sports-Recreation/Packs/2011-Charm.aspx
It doesn't bounce around at all, and is very light and easy to use. The wide mouth makes it easy to clean and lets me put ice in it, and it's very easy to operate mid-run. Absolutely love it. It usually lasts me about 2.5 hours, though it's pretty chilly here now, so I'll probably need to refill it more often in the summer.

Before that, I was using a little backpack with a water bottle. That was terrible. It kept shifting around and putting me off balance.

Fuel belts aggravate my stomach, and I'm not a big fan of holding bottles, so I love my little Camelbak!

I use a hydration pack if needed on any type of adventures as I also hate having things around my waist. Once I am running longer I'll probably have to invest in a lighter one as my hiking and mountain biking and kayaking systems might not cut it for running.
