Running vs Walking Calories

I have done a bit of research on walking and how to increase your fitness level and endurance to begin jogging. running and I have strolled across a few medical websites that suggest you burn the same amount of calories no matter whether you run or walk briskly - its just when you run you get there faster. I am not a runner but I always thought that when you run you kill a lot of calories and it seems to ba a hell of a lot more effort!
Does anyone have any of their own data that compares this? Is it true for you or are some "medical" professionals just crazy?

I don't have any data but I certainly find that when I walk I sometimes feel like I want to run and don't yet because I'm worried about the stress on my body but I do walk as fast as I can when I'm walking and never feel like I'm getting less of a work out. I would imagine sprinting then joggomg then sprinting would use more calories but running on the flat at the same tempo, I dont know.
Also, your data may be size/weight relative.0 -
walking does burn a nice amount of cals but running does burn more as it gets the heart rate up more(like 300bpm)with me:noway: ...joke..but just feels like it.. .0

Being a mathematical type, and until recently not one who enjoys running, I had assumed this to be true. It just sort of makes sense to me that you would expend the same energy over the same distance ... however ... when feeling a bit lazy a few weeks ago I decided to walk my usual run, and according to my trusty HRM I burnt significantly less calories by walking. I believe it was a 5km route and running would burn just under 500kcals, walking burnt just under 300kcals.0

I think it is probably right but it is worded in a very misleading way. They do not burn the same amount of calories because obviously time is a big factor in the equation. It might take me an hour and a half to walk the same distance that it takes me half an hour to run!0

if they both have the distance then they would burn the same calorie for the work out.
But after the work out, the runner will burn more calorie than the walker since runner's heart rate is still up.0 -
Whoever told ya that brisk walking and running burns the same amount of calories, their talking out their backside!!
When i go jogging, my highest HR is around 170-180bpm.. When im power walking its around 120-130bpm sooo you burn lots more calories whilst running because not only is you HR getting higher your using the muscles in your legs alot more tyan what you are if your just brisk walking0 -
