I have always had a super high heart rate. even while Im sleeping it's in the mid to high 80's. in fact a few years ago I even went to a cardiologist becasue at the time I was having palpitations. at that point my resting heart rate(RHR) was 98-100. I smoked and drank a ton of coffee and drank 3-4 energy drinks a day. So I cut out all that stuff but my RHR is still in the high 80's. that is bad right?how do I fix it? how does it effect my calories burned during exersise

anyone know at least where I can look for the info. I tried google but got really confused:flowerforyou:
  • If your resting heart rate is in the 80's, you still fall in the normal range. Mine is usually around 80 BPM, but I'm not at my peak fitness level. A few years ago I had a resting heart rate of about 68-70 and was in much better shape. Keep in mind that as we get older, our resting HR increases.

If you have a HRM or if you use cardio machines that have HRM, you can monitor your heart rate throughout your workout. The best way to bring down your resting heart rate is to do cardio for 30-60 mins per day and try to work out at 80% of your maximum heart rate (Which is around 150-152 BPM). 80% of your maximum heart rate is the optimal intensity for cardiovascular health.

I did a search, but could only find two articles pertaining to resting heart rates that were from sources with medical backgrounds... there is more out there, but you have to dig around to find it!
