I've always wondered why water helps weight loss, I always thought it'd bloat you.

Please can someone explain to me?

Thanks

The human body is anywhere from 55% to 78% water depending on body size. A rule of thumb, 2/3 of body is consists of water, and it is the main component of human body. Did you know that your tissues and organs are mainly made up of water? Here is the %:

    •Muscle consists of 75% water
•Brain consists of 90% of water
•Bone consists of 22% of water
    •Blood consists of 83% water
The functions of water in human body are vital. The water:

•Transports nutrients and oxygen into cells
    •Moisturizes the air in lungs
    •Helps with metabolism
    •Protects our vital organ
•Helps our organs to absorb nutrients better
    •Regulates body temperature
    •Detoxifies
    •Protects and moisturizes our joints

Every cell in your body needs water from head to toe. That is why it is so important to drink enough fluid. Take for example, brain consists of 90% of water, if you do not supply enough water to your body, your brain cannot function well, and you will get headache or migraine. Hence, next time, if you feel fatigue and headache, it may be the sign of dehydration.
  • it helps in lots of ways. For one, it increases your metabolic rate, makes you feel full before a meal, and reduces water retention. It also cleans out all impurities. It does not cause bloating because you pee out all that you drink.
Water aids in digestion, regulates body functions, transports nutrients, removes the body's waste material, reduces blood pressure and cholesterol, improves skin tone and lubricates joints.

It also helps me flush out my sodium,
  • There is a physiologic reason beyond what people have already posted -- talking cellular level, but I cannot explain it, trying to find a good explanation to cut & paste. When your body takes in glucose into the cells it's converted to ATP through the Kreb's cycle. This is the basis for metabolic action for the body. No ATP = no life, not movement, no nothing. The ATP fuels the cells. During ATP production water is produced. But it's not enough for the body to function. If I find a good physiological explanation I'll post.

Cells are mostly water. Keep them hydrated and they function more efficiently!

It's not JUST plain water either
    its FLUIDS you need.

There are some fluids that are better than others -- but if you really just don't like drinking plain water, drink something else! It's more important to stay hydrated and if that means you drink crystal light and coffee all day -- then do it.

Absolutely!!! Also drinking water continuously helps flush out your system of unneeded water soluble nutrients and toxins :)

After working through my 2nd kidney stone, allow me to assure you that water is a necessary and important part of your body's makeup. It hydrates you and keeps you and your organs running as they should. Kidney stones feel like labor, if you've never had one. The problem is that you give birth to a rock through your pee-hole instead of something a bit more forgiving. Good times. Make sure you drink enough water.
