Exercising in the Morning

I noticed that ever since I decided to stop hitting the doggone snooze button to get up and work out in the morning, the pounds are really starting to drop. Traditionally, I'd work out in the evening and see no real weight loss but now that I run, lift weights, etc in the morning before work, I see much more positive results. Anyone else out there experience this?

i haven't done this yet, but i've really been giving it some seriously consideration lately! i'm stuck in a rut right now, so i need something shaken up. now if i could only stop hitting snooze!0

Yup - that's how it works for me too. I believe it's because you are giving your metabolism a kick start so it's burning higher all day instead of slowly waking up as it would without that AM workout. I read that in a book many years ago, and it worked for me then, and it seems to work well for me now as well!!
ETA: I do eat a light breakfast before my workouts because I get sick and light headed and can't work out as hard if I don't.0 -
Yes, when I exercise in the morning I seem to lose weight faster than if I just worked out in the evening or afternoon. Dr. Oz says that working out in the morning is better because you don't have carbs to burn off, you immediately get to the fat stores. I believe him.0

You actually burn more fat working out first thing on an empty stomach. I do my runs first thing before breakfast too.0

Kudos to you for waking up early! I've noticed I have more energy when I do it in the morning. It's been a little hard waking up lately so I've been slacking but now that I see your results I will give it another shot!0

I notice the same thing, although it is sooo dark out still that I need the time change so I can get my run in before 7am when the kids have to wake up for school.0

I've noticed that I generally feel better, more energetic, and more focused when I get up and work out in the mornings. (As long as I can still get to bed at a decent time.) However, I feel like I'm hungrier and end up eating more during the day when I work out in the mornings (which cancels out any calories I burned). Anyone else have this problem?0

The hardest part is getting out of bed.....if you can get up & get dressed to work out, the rest is easy!!
I love working out in the morning. Less stress during the day & I don't decide to "just do it tomorrow" when I am exhausted after working a full day.0 -
I think it varies on every person. In my case there's no bearing whether I workout in the morning or evening, I still get the same results. I workout on late afternoon/evening during weekdays after work & on morning during weekends or sometimes late afternoon on weekends if my body schedule won't allow me in the morning.0

I have noticed this too! When I was working out in the evenings, the scale barely moved. But now that I go to the gym in the mornings, I'm consistently losing .5 pounds a day. It's fantastic! And yes, I do eat more during the day because I'm more hungry, but I haven't had a problem gaining at all. I wonder if it's because your metabolism speeds up in the morning and burns more during the day? I don't really know, but it's working for me and I couldn't be happier! It makes me feel so much better all day!0

One problem I can see when exercising in morning is that I'm always in a hurry & therefore can't able to complete my 14 weight lifting exercises or I can only do maximum of 10 minutes HIIT because I live very far from my office & I usually leave home around 6:30am so I will arrive at work at exactly 8:00am.0

I've been told that if you can, workout in the mornings on an empty stomach- not sure of the truth to this since everyone has an opinion, but this is what helps me. I wish I could get up earlier, but I am not a morning person I try and get in 30-45 min of weights and cardio 3-6 times per week. It just makes me feel better all day when I workout in the mornings, plus if I put it off I honestly won't workout because of my "too tired" excuses in the evenings.0

Working out in the morning is the way to go. The hardest part for me will be getting up early enough to get it in and get my daughter breakfast and ready for school. The summer went well for me because I could work out without the stress of getting her ready, now its a challenge. Once the day gets going, it seems impossible to add it in, which leaves mornings as the only option.0

I love working out in the mornings...usually get up between 3:30 and 4 am. Sat, i ran 12 miles before the sun ever came up. Awesome way to start the day.0

I am not able to work out in the morning due to being a single parent and having to get kids to school and get to work. My gym is near work, so going all the way there to work out, then come home and go back to that area for work seems like a waste of gas. I have to be up at 5:45 just to get the kids and I ready for school/work, so I'd have to be up at 4:15 to work out! I also can't work out on an empty stomach. I am hypoglycemic, and I'd pass out if I didn't eat. I eat lunch at my desk, then take a late lunch hour (about 1:30) to work out. It's working for me, so I'll continue to do that.
My daughter wants to start doing C25K after I get my gallbladder straightened out (may have to have surgery and would rather start C25K after surgery). We may do that in the mornings in our neighborhood (we live in a townhouse, and the neighborhood has sidewalks, so we can stay off the actual road). It will be interesting to see how long she sticks with it when she realizes she'll have to get up about 5:00 AM (she's almost 13)!0
