If it's an infection, you need antibiotics and I wouldn't mess with putting just anything in your eye! Go to the doctor!0

^ this. I work for an eye doctor, there is no home remedy for an eye infection. If it's infected you need meds it will only get worse and spread to the other eye without them.0 -

I've just recovered from conjunctivitis. I used an over the counter antibiotic eye ointment and drops from the pharmacy BUT I knew what I had because I've had it before. Please get checked by your doctor - it might not be an infection, it might be a scratch, something like a stuck eyelash, or an allergy.0

Try wrapping an ice cube in a washcloth and putting in on your eye for a few minutes. I get swollen eyes from allergies pretty frequently. The ice should take the swelling down.
If it hurts, has excessive redness or you notice weird discharge, or if the ice thing doesn't help, I'd suggest visiting the doctor like these guys above me said.0 -

Any chance that you scratched your *kitten* and then rubbing your eyes?0 -
Go to the eye doctor! I had an infection once that I didn't realize was an infection (eyes were bone dry instead of weepy like they usually were with an infection). I ended up at a corneal specialist to check and make sure I didn't have permanent damage. Thankfully I didn't, but I could have easily ended up destroying my sight if it had gone unchecked any longer. Don't wait! Go NOW.0

If it's a bacterial infection, you should have some sort of discharge coming out (maybe yellow or green in color). If that's the case, have your doctor call you in some antibiotic eye drops. However, recently my eye was swollen and I was having issues with it, however, no discharge. Eventually, a stye came up in my lower lid. If this is the case, my mom has always sworn by a boric acid eye wash. You can look up the instructions on how to make it online, but you basically just boil water and dissolve a small amount of boric acid in it. Use a wash cloth to let it seep into your eye if you don't actually have an eye wash system to use. You may want to buy a drop for styes as well because it will help with the pain. Just depends on what you're dealing with.0

Definitely check with a doctor to find out what it is--we are talking about your eyes after all. But my suggestion is to use baby shampoo to wash the area around your eyes really well. I had a really bad eye infection last year and couldn't even open my eye. I went to the eye doctor and he wrote me a Rx for a medication that was so new my insurance didn't cover it and it was so expensive I couldn't afford it. So I called him back and told him I couldn't get the medication would he write me a Rx for something else and I told him I'd been using baby shampoo to keep all the gunk washed out of my eyes. He told me that was fine, to just keep doing that and that the infection would go away on its own; it would just take longer than it would it I had the meds. Well, don't you know that ticked me off to no end! I think he was only after the kickback from the drug company and now I've changed eye doctors! By the way, the infection was gone in within 3 days with baby shampoo alone.0

Yeah, if it is infected, you need to get in to see a doctor and get antibiotics. Swollen doesn't necessarily mean an infection, you may have just irritated it. Is it weepy as well as swollen? If so, get to a doc0

While some home remedies may work for some issues. If you don't know exactly what's caused the problem with your eye, you should see a doctor at once. Your vision is much to important to gamble with!0

Treat swelling with Anti-inflammatory (Advil) and Ice.
I'm not a real Doctor, I just play one on MFP.0 -
If the baby shampoo cleanse doesn't work pretty quickly, get professional medical attention. Your eyes are far too important. If you don't have insurance or a regular doctor try one of the Minute Clinics in a chain pharmacy. I had pink eye recently and went to the one in CVS. The most they charge is $59 for the visit and then you pay for whatever prescriptions you need. If it's a generic, they have a lot of them that are only $4.
Unfortunately, here in the US, you can't get an antibiotic over the counter; they have to be obtained with a prescription.0
