  • She spreads liberal propaganda that brain washes people to rely on the state to make it instead of working hard and getting a job. I'll pass on reading that article. Thanks.

Myth #4: It's better to eat lots of mini meals rather than eating fewer, larger meals.

Truth: There's a kernel of truth in this myth, as EatingWell contributing editor Joyce Hendley reported in The 13 Biggest Diet and Food Myths Busted. Our metabolisms rev up slightly each time we eat, as our bodies process what we&'ve consumed. So by having many mini meals instead of fewer, larger ones, we shift our metabolism into a higher gear more often -- and burn a few more calories. But "the calorie difference is so small it doesn't add up to a hill of beans," says Dr. John Foreyt, director of the Behavioral Medicine Research Center at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston. And for some people, eating more often may mean eating more, period.

So nice to see that. I've lost 41 pounds in 10 weeks and I eat three meals a day and two meals a day on the occasional weekend that I sleep late (brunch and dinner). So tired of people telling me I won't lose weight doing that. Hrmmm... the missing 41 pounds is not a hallucination.
  • Congratulations on your weight loss -- that's unbelievable and a true testament to your commitment!

I have to admit that I was relieved as well to read this. In trying to instill some real self discipline, I've been really cutting back snacking to almost zero. Then, all of a sudden, people began to tell me that many small meals are better. It was so confusing. I finally thought to all those thin ladies you see in France and Italy; after being there on a trip, I realize they don't snack too often in between meals and really limit their portion sizes. So, that's what I've been sticking to so far with modest but healthy results.

    Good luck on your journey!

Thanks. Granted, as you can see by my signature I started high which makes it easier to drop initially, but I have made it over the hump where a lot of people fall off the wagon per se.

I think the a few big meals versus a lot of little meals probably just varies from person to person. Not something that you can lay down a blanket statement for. Since I'm of the "school of thought" that I don't have to cut anything out of my diet as long as I fit it into my calories a lot of small meals won't allow for the occasional calorie dense meal when I'm having a craving. While it's working, I'll keep doing it.

Great article, thanks for posting. I actually noticed recently that I had been avoiding snacks between meals, and only then did I start to see the scale moving slightly lower. So mini meals don't work for me either.
