I started weight training this past week and don't understand something with mfp. Why does it not calculate calories burned under that? I spend 30 minutes doing a variety of machines and a variety of exercises and an additional 30 minutes of cardio. It is only calculating my cardio.

It's under "weight lifting" in the cardio section. IMHO, I think it doesn't attribute enough calories to my style of lifting but it IS there in some form.

It also doesn't take into account that you keep burning calories, even after you're done. So log it under cardio, but realize that it's just an estimate.

Yeah, I was frustrated by that for a minute but I look at it as sort of "bonus"... that is, if you do the strength training and it ends up being underestimated, that's bonus weight loss for you. :)

Thanks so much. I am logging it in cardio as well.

I log it under cardio as "circuit training."

Just make sure that you're doing true circuit training when you log it this way (i.e. very minimal rest).

I don't think that's an issue for me, since after lifting heavy weights, your body continues to burn throughout the day. Since I'm not recording that, the "circuit training" seems sufficient. I'm continuing to lose fat and build muscle, so again, the setting seems just fine for me.
