Hi there. I was hoping that some of you might be able to help with a bit of advice. I have PCOS - have had it for many years, but the last 10 years have been spent worrying more about fertility issues and now with that behind me I am turning to dealing with PCOS for the long haul. I was on fertility drugs and fortunately pregnant twice over the last 8 years and that seemed to all balance my system a bit and I had forgotten how bad the full force of PCOS feels. I was hoping that some of you might be able to recommend dome dietary supplements that are recommended for PCOS and that have worked for you. I am starting to deal with my weight (hence being here  ) and I am hoping to get back to more GI way of eating. Am I right in remembering that evening primrose oil and starflower oil are good? I picked them up today but am not sure if they are the right thing. Thanks if anyone can help. My old symptoms are returning with a bang and I just feel so bad with them that I desperately need to do something.Any assistance would be greatly appreciated :flowerforyou:

  • Evening primrose oil helps with (TMI) your cervical mucous.
    Vitex (Chasteberry) regulates hormones.
Red Raspberry leaf tea is also supposed to tone the uterine muscles and promote healthy lining.

Hope this helps, feel free to add/message me for questions!

Thanks Angelxxoh. I must be remembering the starflower oil from my trying to conceive research (it's all a muddle now, can't remember what's what!). The chasteberry sounds like it would be good to try. Definitely I desperately need to address the hormone imbalance as i feel that's the main problem at the moment. In terms of the Red Raspberry and toning the uterus and healthy lining....is this in relation to trying to conceive or does it help with pms, long cycles, etc? I am finished ttc now (too old unfortunately) so would it have benefits beyond that? Sorry for all the questions, but thanks for your help.

In addition to what was said here you should already be eating via the low carb lifestyle and with taking Vitex (Chasteberry) you should also add in Black Cohosh with it.

The Vitex and Black Cohosh both help with long cycles, PMS and regulating the hormones in the Pituitary, which is where Thyroid issues, PCOS and Diabetes stem from..............an issue in the Pituitary

Also - please make sure that before you take any of these or other future suggested OTC items, to talk with your doctor first. The last thing you need for your unique situation with PCOS is to have any adverse effects .....

I'd recommend a probiotic once or twice a day on an empty stomach! Good luck! :)

Most doctors won't even consider alternative treatments....................they want to prescribe birth control pills, anti-depressants, spirulatine (hair growth stopper)

The Black Cohosh, Vitex and Evening Primrose Oil aren't anything that can cause adverse affects, where as those prescription medications that are synthetic, don't treat the root cause and are only temporary treatments that can have way more ill side effects.

Probiotics are only good for digestive health and will do nothing for someone with PCOS.

My post did not say anything about finding a physician that will recommend these items.......Thats not what I posted.... What I posted states that before the OP decides to jump in and take any of these suggested OTC's, to FIRST take the names to the physicians overseeing their care and ask if its ok for them to take any of these..... What works for one person, could be very unsafe for another person.... Its called being smart about taking anything over the counter and advising your physician you are interested in learning more about these items and whether or not its safe for the OP to take...

    Its called good common sense....

OH... by the way... I happen to have a team of physicians who correspond with each other and I have been prescribed prescription medications as well as over the counter medications and supplements..... and after working in healthcare for 14 years in 26 specialties, Im standing firm by my previous post to always consult the physician before taking anything

Currently I've been taking Evening Primrose Oil so far. I was diagnosed when I was 15 after 8 months without my period. My mom has PCOS so she suggested it to the doctor which is probably the only reason I was tested for it since I don't have really any other symptoms. I'm only 19 so fertility is not an issue right now. But at 15 I was put on the pill. My biggest concern was getting my period. I hated always worrying about getting it in the middle of the day like if I was at school or something but now I'm off the pill and really hope to get my period back and regulate it a bit.

What would be the best thing to take just to do that? ...

Hi everyone. Thanks for all the suggestions. I must talk to my GP about the PCOS. I changed GP's after I had been referred down the fertility clinic route so it has dawned on me that I have never really discussed it (or a plan) with him . It has been a long time since it was mentioned as the fertility treatment drugs seemed to alleviate it. I somehow feel my GP will be more inclined to go the medical route with bcp....not sure at all i want to go there. I will read up on your suggestions and see what to do from here. I don't think he will be too well versed in it to be honest. Kaytee bear. I don't know the answer to your query. i know that the GI diet did wonders for me generally when I did it.

    Apple Cider Vinegar
I took it religiously (tablets) while losing weight last year. I still have some unopened bottles in the cupboard but I have to wait until I stop breastfeeding before starting it again.
The Vitex never worked for me and for that matter the Metformin didn't do squat either. Everyone is different with regards to what works for them though.
