my chore for today was cleaning out the junk room - the room where everything that doesn't have a home gets dumped. ugh! i hate that room. i try to clean it out every two-three months and it stays clean for a few weeks before we start piling stuff back in there. who can relate?

*procrastinating cleaning the messy spare bedroom*

We have a junk room in the basement. I hate the damn thing but my wife can't seem to get rid of anything. We've got crap in there we have not used in 5 years but, nope, we can't get rid of it.

Haha good luck! Try to put on some fun music. Honestly, I like to clean! It's kind of a stress relief for me. Just think of how good you'll feel once it's done!

I had a junk room .... it was also known as the basement. I rented a big honkin' dumpster and cleaned it out.

My new mantra is ... if you're takin' it to the basement you might as well take it to the curb.

Guilty. It's my bedroom and the patio closet. As soon as my son moves out again, it'll be the spare bedroom and the patio closet. I'm actually in the process of trying to get rid of some stuff in my bedroom though so I can buy a steam cleaner and clean the carpet in there. Then I'll go to work on the patio closet.

Does a junk shed count??? lol i just recently went in the shed to put the summer stuff away and couldn't fit anything in there anymore. My next project is to get it cleaned out!

I don't have room for a junk room. The most I have is a junk drawer.

    I have a junk room!

When my bf and I moved in, we put all the stuff in there so we could sort it out bit by bit without having clutter around the house. I've probably brought out and sorted the dvds, cds, half the books and half the clothes. Most of our stuff that we don't use regularly is still there, it's still a mess, nearly every inch is covered and it's hard to walk around in there! I'm working on it.

We moved in June 2010 :/
I'm not really a fan of tidying lol

I don't have a specific junk room, but I have plenty of junk! Strangely enough, since I have changed my lifestyle, I have more of an urge to purge (the house that is). Every week I seem to find stuff to donate, toss, etc. Clean body, clean mind, clean house! It feels good:)

removed so far: 86 books (86 books? why the heck are they on the floor in the bedroom instead of on the bookshelf?), hockey equipment that is too small and needs to be taken to 'play it again sports' for consignment (now in the car), 4 packs of tulip bulbs from costco i forgot i bought, a box of toys the boys no longer want that i need to drop off at goodwill (now in the car) and an extra bookbag with school supplies.

growing up, my mom and i had two houses on the property...we used one for a junk room for a very long time. Eventually we fixed the place up into a normal house though lol...it took months XDXDXD

I won't let it happen. My mom started that way and now she's a hoarder. Mild compared to what I see on TV, but the room is full.

No junk room. I regularly give things away and try to stick with things I need and things I really love or enjoy having. I don't want to pay a rent just to keep things in their own room, or spend extra time caring for them (making room for more things). I moved a lot as a kid, so I learned early how to pack light, what's important enough to drag around with me, and when it's time to let go.

Ditto. I moved and now I have a junk trunk that fits under my bed.

Me me me me meeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!! LOL I so need to be on hoarders. It all started 10 years ago when we were getting ready to move. When we did move and my husband didn't know where stuff went he told the movers to put the stuff in my office. It's NEVER been clean since we moved in May 2002. I get it somewhat clean but that entails moving the crap to other rooms. Then we have company come and it all gets moved back in there. The creep has moved to the bar and laundry room downstairs. **SIGH** I've been working on it this year, but it's SO MUCH stuff I get bogged down and don't get anything done.

Thanks for posting this. This post has prompted me to make myself a commitment to myself to clean something up, even if it's only a small box/bag of stuff every night until the end of this year. MAYBE that will make a dent in the clutter. Goodwill is going to make out well this year!

I did exactly the same thing when I moved into my flat with my ex. But then we split up and I had to clear it out so that I could get a flatmate to share the rent! So now it's her bedroom haha. If I was still with my ex I'm sure it would still be a junk room now.

I'm actually a very tidy person, I hate clutter, which is why I think I had a junk room. It was easier to just put everything in there, shut the door and make the rest of the flat look nice! (think that episode of Friends with Monica and her junk cupboard...that's me)
  • Well, I'm a college student in a one-room apartment. I still have a junk room, but I prefer to call it my bedroom.
