Holiday baking

Each year my family gets together to make cookies for Christmas, and then split them up between the families. We end up with dozens of cookies. My kids don't need that much, and me and my husband are trying to lose weight, so those cookies don't really fit in with what we are doing either. I guess this is a good time to start some new traditions in our house.

What holiday treats do you make for your family and friends that are still festive, but also healthy and nutritious? I will probably still make a few cookies. I mean, the kids still need to leave out cookies and milk on Christmas!

Edited to add: My family enjoys foods from all over the world. I would love to hear some holiday ideas from overseas too for us to try out!

I love making pumpkin spice muffins in the fall. They used to be only 2 points using the old WW points system; I'm not sure how many points they are now. I've also made this in small loaves of bread, wrapped them up and given them as gifts to co-workers and friends.

    1 spice cake mix
    1 15 oz can pumpkin
    1 cup water

Cook for 20-25 minutes at 350.

If you and your family enjoy holiday baking you don't have to give up that tradtition...just add to it. You could always contact nursing and retirement homes and take your children to visit the residents there and take them the treats. Or visit you older neighbors and take them your holiday goodies.

Last year I made the cookies a few days before the holiday and gave most of them away. I love baking with my family but I know if they are in the house I will eat them. Last year I went to the craft store and bought little cookie boxes and gave them to family, friends and neighbors. They loved them and I felt great. The kids don't really eat many of them anyway, so we had a couple while we were making them and saved a little for the holiday table. I made sure when people were leaving I gave away what was left. Worked out great.

My favorite:bigsmile: Banana Nut Bread. Each year I make extra (among other things) but I pass all of the items out to neighbors friends and family as a little holiday treat from my family to theirs!
