Help! The more I exercise, the hungrier I get . . .

It seems that whenever I try to increase my cardio, my hunger shoots through the roof! My normal routine is 40 minutes of weights (circuits with some cardio) 3x per week, plus a BRISK walk with the dog (German Shepherd, high energy) 30-50 minutes 5x per week, along with one 30-minute stationary bike or cardio session with my sister. I am trying to add a little more cardio (30 minutes HIIT training twice per week) and I just started doing the circuit training as opposed to my other regular weight lifting sets. My appetite has shot through the roof and I am craving sugar so bad! I know this is a pretty common problem, but I am hypothyroid and have adrenal problems as well. Does anyone have any good suggestions for combating this? I suppose I could stick with walking... I average about 1750 calories/day and I am trying to cut back a bit, so maybe I just need to focus on diet and ease back.

I found this to be true for me, too, when I burned over 500 calories in my early-morning workout. I would just be ravenous the whole day and go over my allotted calories. I've experimented and found that a burn of 250-350 doesn't make me any more hungry than usual, and I can come in under my allotted calories for the day. Try some experimenting yourself until you find that right balance for you.

If you're working out above your anaerobic threshold, you are also burning sugar and not fat... this will make you crave carbs.

Thanks guys! I have some Optimum Nutrition 100% Whey and also some Syntha-6... I used to do protein shakes a couple years ago but now it's sporadic. I'll definitely make it a habit and I'm sure it will help! I find I have to eat at least 1,800 calories on the days I lift weights, usually it's closer to 2,000.

Glad you asked this because I thought there was something really wrong with me. I was like..food..food..I need food LOL. The days I don't exercise i have to force myself to eat. It's insane!
