The finish line: Opertion 12 for 12

I reached my original goal some time ago and realized there was a lot of refinement to do. During my "big" years I'd lost a lot of the muscle I'd had when I was younger. So that meant, even if I was back at that comfortable old weight more of it represented fat. So how far to go? What arbitrary number to pick?
I decided to shift from targeting pound and go after percentage of body fat. Used a few online tools to calculate where I was. They all admit they're not accurate. I was getting a read of just under 22% Today I found out the real number.
I went into a hydrostatic immersion tank which gives an accurate reading of exact percentage. It's admittedly terrifying. You sit in a tank of water (warm thankfully), put weights across your legs to pin them down, hold your nose, blow out every last bit of air you have and lay back under water. The tank reads how much your body is trying to float. Fat being more buoyant than muscle, naturally you hope to sink like a stone. But, being under water without air causes panic to set in immediately. It's very hard to make yourself not sit right back up before they can get a reading. And, you do it three times - or as many times as it takes to get the same reading twice.
The end result, I'm 19% body fat which is the very bottom of the healthy range - or acceptable as some charts say. Well, after clawing my way through more than 100 pounds, acceptable just isn't, well, acceptable. The next stage is "fit". And the one after that is "highly athletic". At 12% I'd have the fat equivalent of a tri-athlete. Coincidentally, 12% is 12 pounds away.
So there it is. The new goal is 12 more pounds for 12% body fat. Tomorrow morning I launch Operation 12 for 12.
Bring it!!

Woo! Sounds like a plan to me! I've always wondered about my body fat percentage, but have no idea where to go to get it measured. Good luck reaching your goal!!!0

What you just described is legendary!
I find that using ad-hoc body fat percentage methods (in other words, homemade ones) is efficient enough. You mentioned you got 22% before actually testing out to 19% for a 3% difference. I say, accurate enough!
Pulling in the numbers of 12 for 12 is a very decent goal for the next step. I find currently I'm 5kg down the line to my first goal of 90kg, which is basically 1/5 of the way. I often wonder what my next goal will be - and I agree, acceptable at that point would not be acceptable.

WooHoo! Way to go. Keep inspiring me Keogh!:smokin:0
