To wear my FT7 in the pool or not?

For those of you that have done it before... was it a good way to sort of get a more accurate number than just using calculators on the internet to guesstimate your burn? Or was it completely pointless? I'm starting to have doubts about how accurate my calculations are when it comes to my swim practices.

  • Well they are made waterproof and meant to be used in the water as well. I think it will give you an accurate reading of your HR and calories burned.

Do it. It's nice to have a more accurate calorie count. MFP was really overestimating my swimming calories. Just don't push the buttons on the watch while in the water.

I called & emailed Polar customer service and got the same answer. Yes, you can go swimming...just not scuba diving!! Give it a second to read right and you'll be fine!

I wear mine in the pool, and I just have a cheap little FT1. I let it get my HR before I start and haven't had a single problem yet!

Of course why not? Unfortunately my FT4 wouldn't transmit in the chlorinated water, but hopefully yours will! I find MFP grossly overestimates my calorie burn.

While they're waterproof,I did read somewhere that it was a good idea not to press any buttons whilst underwater. Don't know if that's true, but it's a relatively easy guideline to stick to, just to be on the safe side.

Well I definitely had success with it! Only the first few lengths it kept beeping and not reading, but after that, it was all smooth sailin'. Based on this morning's practice, I've been overestimating a bit (around 100-200cals). I'll have to test other practices too to get a better overall picture.
