I am back on prednisone for 10 days. In the past it seems that I gain about 8-10 lbs with each RX. I have had so much sucess with MFP that am concerned about a setback. I have a flare up of vasculitis which is limiting my excercise to slowturns on the old excercise bike. Can anyone on prednisone help. By the way it makes me kind of cranky.:grumble:

I take prednisone on a daily basis for an autoimmune disease... how much are you on? Does it increase your appetite? Since you are only taking it for about a week (is it a graduated dose pack?), the weight is almost 100% water. Just make sure you get in your protein with tons of veggies, etc.

Thanks tcrofford, I am taking 20mg 2 for 5 , then 1 for 5 days. I have deen diagnosed with autoimmune vasculitis. It just affects my feet and fingers ,but makes it impossible to walk when flared, so I just get on that old bike and pedal slow. In the past I have gained weight while taking Prednisone, but I wonder if the emotional side effects just give me an excuse to feel sorry for myself and "forget" what I've eaten. I have found that logging my food helps. I will make sure I keep those protein levels up and maybe cut out some fruit and eat lots of veggies. I've read that I should make sure and take in lots of calcium and vitamin D. Thanks for your suggestions and keep healthy:flowerforyou:

    I feel your pain!
I have been on prednisolone for over three months now, the dose started at 40mg but i couldn't get it below 25mg without flaring again, i have colitis. So i am currently on 30mg, just reduced yesterday,
i put on about twenty pounds since August. In the last 12 days i have stuck religiously to my 1200calories and i do around ten hours exercise a week, mixture of yoga, swimming, body combat, walking and dancing. I haven't lost an ounce!!!
Yes, it is incredibly frustrating. I am hungry all the time and i am working my *kitten* off at the gym and the best i can achieve is to maintain.
Looks like i will be on steroids at least another few months. They are evil!!
Sorry i don't have answers for you. I guess all we can do is eat healthily, exercise lots and get well again.
    Good luck!
