The only thing I know about probiotics is that if you are on antibiotics for any reason and have issues with upset stomach, take a probiotic twice a day and the issues stop...at least they have with me. Yogurt works too, but not as well as an over the counter probiotic.

I eat the activia because I'm not "regular." I think it helps, of course it's not really a colon flush. More like small movement that helps overall.

I just started eating the activia light every day (that's the yogurt with the probiotic in it -bifidus something or another) Anyways... I have the same issue- weekly, IF I'm lucky...usually only with the help of a laxative. (and yes, I drink plenty of water..eat plenty of fiber etc.) Anyways,... I've been eating the yogurts for 3 days now, and I think they take a week or so to show any improvement... so I'll update in a few days and see if anything seems better :)

I take an otc probiotic for "assistance" and I notice a difference.
  • Pre and Pro-biotics do work, if they're incorporated correctly. I'm not sure what role they would play in a colon cleanse...

Yes! Probiotics work but you have to get the right kind. I would not get probiotics through yogurt, there is really not enough. I love Healthy Start Trinity. I have IBS and these have worked wonders. You start with the starter kit and then move to the stronger stuff. They are pricy though. I get it from Fruitful Yield or Wholefoods.
  • I won't eat yogart, so I take a probiotic. Make sure it has at least 2 billion microorganisms :) It has helped me a TON!!

The idea behind pro Biotic is that our body is actually a collection of many living things and plays host to many different forms of bacteria, some of which are very useful to us. Your colon naturally hosts many of these bacteria, and they play a role helping digestion as well as promoting proper internal pH. However many people don't keep up with these bacteria for a number of reasons (antibiotics, improper diet, etc) and it can cause problems.

So can they help? Maybe, it really depends on the person. If this is the cause of your problem then it will help. Either way it won't HURT and you might as well see if it works for you.

Absolutely!! The best part of pro-biotics is they also get rid of the 'bad' bacteria in your stomach, like the flu..etc. My family takes pro-biotics regularly. Once you get built up in it you may want to cut back to a couple of times a week. My daughter and neighbor both have IBS and they take the pro-biotic daily to help with that and it works very well for them.

Swanson Vitamins has a great selection. They run a lot of internet specials and promo codes, usually 2 for 1.
