"Police Academy" star and NFL legend Bubba Smith died from taking too many diet pills ... this according to the L.A. County Coroner.

The Coroner just released the actor's causes of death -- the first of which was "acute phentermine intoxication." Phentermine is the generic name for a weight loss medication.

According to the Coroner, other conditions that may have contributed to Bubba's death include heart disease and hypertension.

Bubba -- who was a towering 6'7" -- passed away on August 3rd. He was 66.

That makes my decision to stop taking Phentermine even better. My doctor is officially a crazy person.

So the moral of the story is... don't overdose on diet pills, particularly if you have a heart condition.

For that matter you can overdose on water. I'm not a big fan of diet pills, but really? This incident doesn't say anything about their safety.

Yeah not to mention he had heart problems. The Dr is suppose to monitor that stuff while on a diet pills. Sounds like he dipped in a bit, Dr. wasn't doing proper follow ups either. When I was on Phen I had monthly meetings where they drew blood, checked lungs, heart, and etc.

the medical industry has an AGENDA folks

Just today I wondered, why do all these women on hormonal birth control get migraines on their period? Well --- it's a DRUG they're taking and every month when they go on the rag, they're going thru withdrawal symptoms when they stop taking it. Not rocket science.

Such a shame... poor Bubba... poor Bubba for being named "Bubba", too.

I never did. I went off because of the environmental factor. Our waters have traces of the hormones that are being flushed out with every flush causing fish and other animals to become female and who knows what it s doing to male human fetus and children who are in contact with this. Also it lowers you sex drive and sucks to be on. but anyways.

    Drugs are bad, Mmkay.

Pretty sure that most of the medical industry (docs and pharma) are looking out for people's best interests.

This is a case of a pharmaceutical being misused.

    RIP Bubba. Enjoyed your work.

    Charles Aaron "Bubba" Smith

Smith originally had hopes of playing college football at the University of Texas. Even though Longhorns head coach Darrell Royal was willing to offer him an athletic scholarship, he was prohibited from doing so because of the prevalent racial segregation throughout the Southern United States.

Smith played college football at Michigan State University. He was awarded with All-America honors in 1965 and 1966. Smith was a popular athlete at Michigan State, with the popular fan chant of "Kill, Bubba, Kill."

Smith spent nine seasons in the NFL as a defensive end. He was the first overall selection in the 1967 NFL draft, chosen by the Baltimore Colts. The Colts won Super Bowl V at the end of the 1970 season, earning Smith his only Super Bowl ring. However, in interviews, Smith stated that he would never wear the ring, as it was seen as a "sloppy" game by many. He was traded to the Oakland Raiders before the 1972 season, and finished his career with the Houston Oilers. He was selected All-Pro one year, All-Conference two years, and went to two Pro Bowls.

*** Appeared to be a good upstanding guy that either made a fatal mistake, or was told to do so by someone else. Let's not disparage him now -- much less because of his nickname.
