First post here,
I'm 22, and looking to lose about 60 pounds. By reducing caloric intake alone, I have lost about 5 pounds already. I aim to use my recumbent bike about 4 days a week, doing 10 miles each day. I hope this combined with improved and limited diet I can eventually reach my goal.

Take it from me,If you lose weight just by reducing calories you will become shapeless and "skinny fat"....Like me. I am skinny now but still do not have the body I want.0

I have lost 65 pounds by following a low-gi diet, doing daily fast walking/strength training/cardio machines. For the first 45 pounds the only cardio machine I used was the recumbant bike, doing about 10 km/day. I ended up switching to the elliptical machine because it burns more calories.
If you are looking to lose the weight without a gym membership, try adding a fast walk every day. I go for about an hour, walking very fast. It's a great calorie burner 300-450 calories per hour, and the time passes a lot faster than on the bike.0
