I was wondering what some good exercises would be to do while I'm pregnant? I want to keep in shape as best I can during this but don't want to do anything that could be harmful either!

Thanks!!!

    Please consult your physician!
  • Do what you did to get pregnant in the first place.

They always say if you've already been excercising you can continue your normal routine. I have never been pregnant but 2 of my really close friends have. They both excercised throughout their entire pregnancy (walking, jogging, biking, etc.) and they were fine. I have a picture of my best friend jogging when she was 8.5 months preggo...she was in the best shape she had ever been in. Good luck!!!

But be sure to ask your doctor also!

someone recently finished a marathon, 40 weeks preg. Unless you are hypertensive or put on bedrest, I don't see why you should stop exercising "normally"

Usually you can keep doing whatever you've already been doing for quite awhile (unless your dr. has specific concerns or until it becomes difficult or dangerous). Keep well hydrated and make sure you're getting good nutrition. Talk to your dr. or midwife if you want specific recommendations - they will let you know if there's any reason for you to do things differently than what you're already doing.

After consulting your physician, I'd recommend yoga and walking, stretching exercises. Bike riding is good too.

You can typically do what you were doing before you were pregnant.
But swimming is fantastic especially the farther along you are. No stress on your joints.

But while I was pregnant I continued with running and yoga (took a prenatal class).
  • Thanks everybody! Yea I was so excited at the doctors today I forgot to ask. I left a message for the nurse but thought I'd see what you all have done

Swimming is especially great later on b/c it can actually help encourage baby to go head-down if they are being stubborn and trying to stay breech. I hear underwater flipping is especially good. ;)

I am a runner and my doctor encouraged me to keep running and stay in shape. I bought a few prenatal DVDs- Lindsay Brin, Summer Sanders, and Denise Austin. I like doing all 3 of them. Look them up in Amazon. I still run but I am slow now, and swimming is great too. I am not a good swimmer, I wished I was! My gym offers water aerobic classes I would like to take when I am in my 3rd trimester. Good luck!
