It depends on what you deem a plateau. I consider a plateau months on end with no changes to weight or measurement, all the while you're doing everything right- eating, exercising etc being patient etc. In that case I have lost 56 lbs without plateauing. The longets I've went with no change is 3 weeks, but generally I lose something every week.

During those three weeks did you try anything different? Or did you just keep on a steady path and eventually the scale moved?

I kept on a steady path. But I want to stress that I do not consider 3 weeks a plateau. If it has been 6 weeks or more since the scale moved you may need to change something, that may include visiting with your doctor. There are lots of reasons why weight may not be coming off. :flowerforyou:

Just wanted to hear about people's experiences! I haven't plateaued (yet) but I think I'll have a hard time losing 15 pounds.

15 pounds doesn't come off quickly if you aren't overweight to begin with. I had 11 to lose, and the best I could do was .5 pounds per week, some weeks none, it is because you can't have as large of a calorie deficit as someone who has 100 to lose and your body doesn't really want to give up the last of its reserves. But don't obsess about it, if you are eating enough, and good for you food as well as exercising every day you are getting healthier and healthier, and although maybe the pound didn't come off, but you can now see your thigh muscles when you walk or there is a little less cellulite on your butt, your body rearranges things even though the scale does not show it sometimes. I have been doing this since July, and I am really liking how my body is looking now. In actual fact, I lost only about five of what I wanted, but my body is different, my clothes fit and I feel great. Were there days I was ticked cause I hadn't lost the 11 pounds I started out to lose yes, but I stuck with it anyway and now starting to look forward to summer.

I totally agree with what you are saying, allaboutme.

I am considered "overweight" according to my BMI. So I do plan on getting into a BMI range that is "average". However, I am not sure losing 15 pounds is best. I am definitely going to lose 10 more and see what my body looks like. I have a larger bone structure and have quite a bit of muscle mass. So I don't want to get to a weight that makes me look unhealthy. I have always eat healthy (for the most part, actually I was eating too FEW calories per day most of the time) and exercise so I feel I have good habits already. That's why I think my body is going to be stubborn.

I probably fit that second category.

My goal weight had been 125 pounds (from over 200) but it kept going beyond my goal. I did hit plateaus here and there, but I would "crank up" my exercise (either more weight or more reps, further jogs) and I always got past it.

At one point I was "too skinny" (my BMI dropped too low) and I had to recalculate everything - then I got pregnant and had to recalculate again. I guess it's a constant game.

    Hi

I guess I'm not the norm but I came here in Jan..I am 5'7 ish and weighed about 157
I consistently lost from Jan-May and am now down almost 30 pounds
Maybe I'm just lucky but I never hit a plateau...I lost every week..some weeks more than others....
From being here for a while I know it feels great to hear other peoples stories and we tend to compare ourselves (which is fine) but everyone really is so different

    Good luck!
    Kim
