Fasting - is it good for you?

You know I've tried many things to lose weight but fasting isn't one of them. I understand there is good and bad to this type of process but wonder if the good out weighs (pun intended) the bad.

I've done a good job losing for several months now but struggled the last two, mostly because I've allowed sugar back into my life and once again am struggling to break the habit or addition.

I found this web page and it gives me as many questions as it does answers.

Have any of you had any experience, good or bad, I'd like to hear about them.

Thanks

Mike,
friend me if you want "memro" is the username

There is an intermittent fasting support group somewhere on here. I follow a 20 hour fast with a 4 hour window to eat. Others do Lean Gains, which you can find info on on the internet. I like eating this way. I'm too lazy to have to come up with 6 meals a deal and I dont like always having to worry about stopping to eat something.
  • I don't fasting is a healthy weight loss method. You can;t fast forever. SO you will gain the weight back IMO

Intermittent Fasting I fully support tho :]

I agree with Vodkha. Intermittent fasting is good :) I can easily go through the day with having my first meal at 6pm. I do have coffee with a bit of sugar throughout the day. I don't do it as often these days but when I do it's useful.

I do intermittent fasting, but juice fasting/cleanses/detoxes, no. :) I like to eat real food and let my body digest it the way it was designed to do in amounts I want to eat, when I want to eat it.

I personally don't like the idea, but within reason, why not try it for yourself? I don't think it's so horrible that you'd regret an attempt , since you're obviously interested.

I just wanted to add, if you've ever been digestively sensitive, going on a juice fast is something you should really do gradually. Your body is used to having "bulk" passing through the intestines/colon to help push things along, and when you go back to a somewhat more normal way of eating, you can create problems, constipation, cramping, bloating, stomach upset, as well, if you are going to juice fast, I recommend using a high quality probiotic, as well not to do anything high intensity or drive heavy machinery, many people get dizzy, irritable, withdrawl symptoms from their regular diet for the first 48-72 hours.

I water fasted one time for health reasons (lockjaw) and for weight loss. Both were for 2 weeks straight. Yep. Just water. Felt amazing afterwards. Wouldn't do it again for weight loss but would for health in a heartbeat. I took on the risk myself and wouldn't recommend it to anyone. Just stating my experience.

I imagine the other fasts are less intense and much more safer.
