Awkward NSVs?

Anyone have any? I didn't know they existed, but apparently my story is considered one! (asked a couple girls on my friends list :P)

I'll copy and paste it from my status update:

Met my voice teacher for the first time today, and we were talking about proper breathing technique and how your belly goes out when you breathe in... he told me he has a belly problem (because we all have problems with some part of our body) but then told me I don't have to worry about belly problems because I was thin as a rail! (I was wearing a really flowy shirt :P so it hid everything anyway!) ... but he also told me that I had a very nice chest... what do you say to that?! AWKWARD!

So yes, if you have any stories where you're like "hey, I kind of want to take that as a compliment but it's awkward as who knows what!" then share! :)

"its nice to see strong arms and a strong chest on a girl"
    um..... thanks?

  • A nice chest!?!? That sounds less like a compliment and more like sexual harassment to me. Am I missing something here?

i bench a lot, so my chest/arms/upper back is unusually toned- i mean- i WAS doing upper body in the gym when i got that comment- like it wasn't random (completely)

No. That was my first thought as well.

i mean, i'm a 21 year old member of the itty bitty titty committee... i've gotta believe that if this person wanted to drool over boobs, there'd be easier "targets"
I'm thinking it was a compliment gone very, very wrong
  • Yeah I would try to find a new voice coach!! Maybe it was poor phrasing but I'd be paying close attention and if something like that happens again it's just not cool.
  • Who knows! It was just the first lesson... was a little awkward... I was talking the "thin as a rail" as the compliment :P The chest thing kind of came as we were talking about posture and how girls like to hide their bodies (and how that contributes to poor posture). He then gave me an example of this one girl that he started teaching when she was 9 and then said when she "developed" at 13 all she wanted to do was hide her body... and started slouching a lot... and I said kind of quietly, "that sounds like my life" ... and he told me that I don't have that problem...then got awkward and stumbled a bit and was like..."uhh ...not saying that you know they're bad or ...umm... they're nice" something along those lines! It was very awkward... a little inappropriate... but it was part of what we were talking about... maybe he should've used a different example...I don't know! I am going to keep my ear/eye open over the next couple lessons though...
