So whats your plan come turkey day? My plan is to use smalerl plate and taste everything that I want (in smaller portions) and see if I can get family to do some variations for mr while they pepare each dish... Instead of brocoli casserole I am just going to have brocoli and cheese and instead of rolls and stuffing I am going to do one or the other... I was just curious what everyone elses game plan was?

I have lost a good amount and diet fairly well.. but in light of holidays I have introduce a one day a week skip day. It is unlikely I will be eating 3500 calories over my usual calorie intake that day so I will eat until I'm fulll but ONLY until I'm full. Maybe you could do the same?0

This will be my first year preparing Thanksgiving dinner and I tend to cook relatively healthy but wanted to keep things pretty traditional since I'll be cooking for my in-laws this year too... I found some good ideas at this site: http://thanksgivingtips.com/healthy.php0

My plan is what I do for all family gatherings, watch what I eat the other 2 meals of the day and exercise a lot so I have lots of calories left for that meal and just eat smaller portions of what I want and watch so I don't go over my calories for the day.0

I am going to eat what ever I want because it Thanksgiving, so I am going to take advantage of that. Its one day, and I can work out harder on Wednesday and Friday to make up for it.0

I'm still trying to decide if I want to break 6 months of vegetarianism for that one day or just stick with all the sides and skip the turkey. I do plan to try and get them to let me cook slightly healthier versions of some stuff, like yams without the marshmallows and a variation on the green bean casserole. We'll see...
Also, I'll probably stick to one drink. My family will gladly take the rest.0 -
just gonna bust my *kitten* off with excercise the day before and after. I didn't worry or stress about it last year and lost just fine. no need to worry about it this year.0

Since I don't go to a lot of holiday parties and usually Have Thanksgiving at home with my family I am going to eat what ever I want until I am full. It is only one day it wont kill me. We all need to have fun once in a while. I think people get into trouble when they have a lot of place to be for dinner during the holidays, so you end up eating way more than you should have because you have 3 Thanksgiving dinners to attend in the same night and you eat at each so as not to offend anyone. :-)0

I leave on a cruise from Ft. Lauderdale for a week.....yeah pretty much at the mercy of the buffet bar! I do have 2 hour workouts planned for everyday!0

My goal is to eat and exercise well up until Thanksgiving and then eat what I want on that day. I know I will not be going hog wild, but I don't want to deny myself either because this is the only time we make turkey. I don't like stuffing, so I don't have to worry about that. But anyway, I hope to exercise that morning and then eat what I want but in moderation.0

I will run 13 miles that morning. That should cover it.0

I am cooking Thanksgiving dinner this yr. so I am in control of everything that I make. I have been searching all the websites for low cal recipes to use. I have my menu made now. everything will be different this yr. and I will be the only one that knows it isn't loaded with calories. So I should be able to have a little of everything and still be under my cals for the day!! this is a new life and there isn't any going crazy for the day eating and then jumping back on the wagon and back off again for the next holiday for me. Happy Thanksgiving0

I am going to run/walk a 5K that morning so that I bank away some extra calories and try to make it to the gym every other day that week.
My mom cooks Thanksgiving dinner, so I will bring some healthy vegetable sides to go with the usual goodies. My goal is not to overeat to the point at which I am hurting like I usually do, but still be able to enjoy the foods that I limit to special occasions.0 -
Modifications discussed with family ahead of time and agreed upon! My family is mostly type 2 diabetics so the modifications will benefit them also. One splurge is cabbage casserole so good!0
-
I have learned to still eat my breakfast and not Binge or Stuff myself. I try to keep the day on schedule. Depending when or where we eat.
If I indulge I go for a piece of good pie. If I want to try something I take a small small amount just to taste it.
People need to figure out How Not to Hog out at the holiday.
Average American gains 8-10lbs in those holiday months0 -
That's exactly what I'll do for Thanksgiving. You can't prohibit yourself of enjoyin a great day and food with the family. But, yes, be mindful of I what I'm going to eat. I will also be going tthe the gym the morning of and then the next day. I will do about and hour of cardio, and then 30 minutes of push ups and sit up. Enjoy the holiday and good luck to all!0

Jan just sent out invites to Thanksgiving. If everyone shows, there will be 19. Not counting any strays. There are always a couple strays. Someone always comes across a co-worker or friend and finds they have no family.
Dinner will include Turkey and Ham, Sausage Stuffing, Green Bean Casserole, Potatoes and Gravy, Sweet Potato Casserole, Salad. Dessert will include Pumpkin Pie, Rhubarb Apple Pie, Jack Daniels Chocolate Pecan Pie and probably Ice Cream.
That's what we'll make. Who knows what others will bring? Nothing is Low Calorie or designed to fit into my diet. I'll just have to exercise portion control.
After dinner, I'll step out to the back for a cigar and bourbon. I'll switch from Knob Creek to Wild Turkey to honor the occassion.
I left out the Hot Buttered Rum. There will be Hot Buttered Rum. Oh...and in the evening the change jars will come out for Poker.
Better start looking for my Thanksgiving Pants.
I hope everyone has as good a time as I am planning.
Of course, we will get up in the wee hours of the morning for Black Friday. Then come back for Brunch constructed from leftovers. Then the rest of the day will be spent translating leftovers to Chowders, Soups, Turkey Enchiladas for the freezer.0 -
I'm going to be running an 8K that morning, yay Turkey Trot! That should cover what I'll overeat. If not, I'm not going to worry about it. Thanksgiving dinner is one of my favorite meals so I'll enjoy everything in moderation!0

It really is an individual thing because for some going back to old ways or not being mindful about eating can set off a week or more of being off your plan. It's a slippery slope, know thyself and all that sort of thing. If you can eat like you used to on turkey day and then go back to your calorie counting and exercising the very next day, go for it!
BUT I wouldn't get on a scale for a good 2 weeks because the temporary gain or water weight could show up on the numbers and discourage you. As soon as TG ends xmas goodies appear0 -
I plan to start the day with 60 min of Zumba and then eat Thanksgiving dinner as usual, including pecan pie. It's once a year. I'm living it up.0

I'm going to be meeting my boyfriend's parents (and possibly siblings and nieces/nephews) for the first time that day, so I have a feeling I'm going to be so nervous that I'm not going to eat much. Not necessarily a bad thing. My plan is to enjoy myself though, not stuff myself until I puke, but not feel deprived of something yummy. It is one day, and I believe that having a few special occasion days isn't going to break anything...as long as you don't make every day a special occasion!0

My sister and I are considering running a 5K that morning (an actual race, not a private 5K), but I may not be able to participate and get where I need to be with my husband and son for Thanksgiving (my sister is staying put and didn't want to join us at my in-laws'). Even if we don't do the 5K, I will probably run with her that night when we get back, since we can't get back too late (we have to get the baby to bed).
But as far as eating, I know what's good and what's not. Stuffing and mashed potatoes will be (unfortunately) off the menu for me. I will try to load up on white meat (I hate dark meat anyway) and will go super easy on the gravy, plus I will load up on veggies, since there are sure to be plain old steamed veggies. There are sure to be sweet potatoes, too, and I eat those plain with the skin. I guess I'm lucky in that my in-laws tend to be pretty health-conscious, and both of my sisters-in-law on that side are vegetarians.
I'm a little torn over dessert, though. I'm thinking I probably will partake of some pumpkin pie and maybe just not eat the crust. I know it's not the healthiest thing in the world, but it is probably as good as it gets as far as Thanksgiving desserts, both taste-wise and health-wise
It is just one day, though, so while I am not turning it into some all-out, stuffed-to-the-gills, throw-everything-out-the-window eating festival, I am not going to beat myself up over what I eat/don't eat. I also don't plan on logging because it's just too much work trying to figure everything out.
Good luck everyone, and Happy Thanksgiving a few weeks early!0 -

Gotta love those initial parent- and/or family-meetings! I usually ate very carefully, so as not to make a mess and a fool of myself or look like a pig. Though if they care about how you eat (unless you're out-and-out rude), they're probably not worth it. As long as you're a nice person and good to their son/brother/uncle, they should love you Good luck!0 -
I am going to eat what ever I want because it Thanksgiving
Pretty much!0 -
Eating what I want. I'll probably eat lighter the other two meals and exercise to save up. But other than that, I'm a broke college student. Thanksgiving is home cooked heaven to me!0
