I was just put on effexor- and while the medication has helped with my depression in a GREAT way, i've noticed massive fluid retention. I was just wondering if anyone else out there has had this same problem. Thanks!

I've read a lot of stuff here form people on Effexor. Click "Search" (above your post)....I just did that and typed in Effexor: there are eight pages of results....in case you don't get enough replies.

I was put on it a few years ago for depression and unfortunately gained weight. I researched it and found out that weight gain is very common, I asked to be switched to something else and found prozac worked great - but everyone reacts differently. I have also heard that if you go off effexor to do so very gradually. Good job getting the medication, just be careful with the weight gain side effect - I hope this helps - good luck!!

I was on it for years- and has WONDERFUL results. I don't remember any fluid retention, but I was training at the OTC at the time and they monitored me carefully, and had me on a super strict diet so that may have been the reason for that.
  • I was on it for a year and it made me lose lose 20 lbs immediately. I gained them the same way when i went off. good luck. I think everyone has different side effects. I guess i was lucky. I have heard alot about generic vs name brand prescription drugs and the differences in side
  • effects. Due mainly to how other stuff put in the drug to help your bady metabolise it. It could be worth looking into. Glad its helping with the depression though
