5 Ways To Sneak Exercise Into Your Life

1. Keep heavy cans (canned beans work good) or weights next to your chair at night when you're watching T.V. Do curls and extensions during the commercials.

2. Park farther away on purpose. For one you won't get as many dents and dings in your car and for two, you'll get your heart rate up.

3. Play music while you're cleaning or cooking. Music has a natural motivating power and will get you shaking your groove thing without even realizing it.

4. Take over the yardwork. Raking/mowing/shoveling snow... it doesn't have to just be your Hubby's job. It's a great way to get both fresh air and some much needed exercise!

5. Play outside with your kids. This gets especially harder to do when they get older and don't need your supervision anymore but it remains important just the same. Take them on a quick walk or bike ride. Take them to the park. Toss the ball around. Turn the rope for jump rope. You'll not only have precious family time and much needed exercise, you'll also be modeling healthy behaviour for your kids.

What about you? Got any tips for us?

If you work an office job, go for a walk during your lunch break. It helps clear your head and squeeze in a little extra exercise.

Instead of leaning over to get clothes out of the dryer do squats to get every piece of laundry (Try doing this with socks...you'll be getting in squats like no one's business)

    Take the stairs!
  • if allowed, get an exercise ball to replace your office chair. We got them at our office retreat this year, sadly they're a little too small to be used comfortably, but larger ones are great!

While watching TV, do crunches, squats, pushups, or planks during commercials.

My kids are getting older and I've found that even though they may complain a little, when they see you doing it, they want to do it too and most of the time afterward they say 'at first I didn't want to, but that was a good idea mom."

Oh and NEVER underestimate the exercise benefits of cartoon tag! It's a favorite at our house.

Calf raises while making your morning coffee and squats/lunges/wall pushups when you go to the restroom.
