Anyone Else Dealing with IBS and Associated Motility Disorde

I have dealt with this all my life and there are few areas it does not interfere with. I was anorexic in the past and part of the reason was that eating/food in my system at all is so uncomfortable. (Not that I don't like to eat) But now, as I go through this weekly weighing and all, I know that my weight is not only dependant on my caloric intake and exercise, but also (and sometimes moreso) on how well my system is functioning. It's extremely frustrating. I would love to hear other's thought who deal with this.

I have IBS. I've had it for as long as I can remember.
I also used to be anorexic ( The lightest I've ever been in the past 5 years as been 211...the way I got there was to quit eating).
Are you taking any medication for the IBS? Which IBS are you?0 -
I struggled with IBS since high school, although, until a few years ago, I had no idea what it was and never talked with anyone about it. I was too embarrassed. I will say, that since changing my diet and drinking my nutrition shake, I no longer have IBS at all.
I know how frustrating it can be, so it sure is a blessing not to have to struggle with it any longer...and without drugs. Cured it naturally.0 -
Mine is SO much better after a year of eating well. I notice when I eat crap food more than a couple times it comes back. More motivation to eat right.0

I suffered with IBS and stomach ulcers for a long time and I had to have my gall bladder removed so I definitely understand where you are coming from. It is extremely painful when your system is working against you. IBS does make it harder to lose weight. Eating hurts and bloating is very very discouraging. What has helped me is eating healthy, drinking a ton of water, drinking aloe vera juice, and consistently working out. When I'm doing everything I should be doing for my health, IBS doesn't affect me. I'm so sorry you are going through this, please let me know if I can be of any support! Good luck!0

I find that even with proper diet and exercise I still can't find any relief. I have IBS-C as my main issue with random and severe bouts of IBS-D and IBS-G.
I'm on medication for it (Amitiza 20 mg 2x's a day) and I still don't always find relief. So occasionally I'll have to supplement my medicine with Miralax (Which does the same thing as my meds but in powder form and over the counter).
I didn't talk to the doctor about it til last year. As I just thought it was normal that I didn't go....then I started thinking. It can't be normal to go weeks with out going. So...i finally saw the doctor about it.
Best thing I ever did! Though since I'm still having issues I have a doctor's appointment tomorrow to update her on what I'm doing. I might end up increasing my dose O.O
I know a lot of it has to do with stress...But I don't work ( I'm a house wife), I don't have kids (unless you count my recently one eyed kitty)....So my stress level is WAAAY down from what it used to be.
I've heard that yoga can help. There are certain positions that are supposed to help the digestive track. You might want to look into that.0 -
I have mostly IBS-C. I have always exercised a great deal and I find that running helps more than anything. But, it can help at the most inopportune times. Sucks! I eat healthy 99% of the time but eating healthy for me is not always the answer the same as it is for other people, as raw veggies and fruits and other types of natural fiber can make me miserable. I am off all prescription meds now, use to be on Reglan. I do take Miralax every morning. I was 3 pounds from my goal weight last week and now I am up 4 pounds....so 7 away. I have decided to weigh myself every day for a few weeks and see how it fluctuates. I never change the time of day I weight, though. The bloating sucks!! I went through a period of time where I looked 6 months pregnant, seriously. My doc made me have a pregnancy test before giving me a referal back to the GI. He put me on the antibiotics 3 times for the intestinal bacteria. Oh, and Activia causes my life to be hell!!0
