Shallow Observation

This actually makes sense... except, an "ugly" person usually means who they are on the inside. Even pretty people can be ugly when they open their mouth.
Actually, OP said "Oh yeah, well I can diet, but you can't lose ugly". That is a phrase people often use to retort when someone calls them fat. Therefore, said "fat" person then retorts "Oh yeah, well I can diet, but you can't lose ugly". Therefore, said "ugly" person COULD have been a good looking person with a nasty attitude, like calling anyone fat, for instance. :flowerforyou:
That's not how I understand it at all. "Ugly" is referring to looks in this case IMO. After all, you CAN lose an ugly attitude a lot easier than you can an ugly face (unless you've got lots of cash for surgery).0 -
Isn't it OK to make a bold statement like, in general, losing weight makes you more attractive? Sometimes political correctness causes people not to say what they are really thinking.0

Nothing tastes as bad as ugly feels! :drinker:
I think I heard that Paris Hilton, not that she's any kind of inspiration, said "Nothing tastes as good as skinny feels"0 -
Firstly, I'll admit that whenever I see a before and after pic post on the forums I have to open it. I'm trying to figure out a way to say this without being condescending (I already know it's shallow) but I've noticed that a lot of times you will see someone's before picture that is kind of homely, for lack of a kinder term, and then the after picture they look really attractive. Not like that's a shocker to anyone, but I've used it as motivation. Besides the more important reason of your health it's still a good motivator. I used to joke back if someone commented on my weight that "Oh yeah, well I can diet, but you can't lose ugly". Truth is from everything I've seen on MFP you can lose ugly, no offense to anyone because I don't consider myself to be a looker either.
I'm looking forward to your after picture then.0 -

My response to this is not nearly as civil as everyone else. I would get not only a warning, but probably a ban.
Ha! Send me a message then because I'm totally curious and I love uncivility (not sure if that's a word)
Incivility0 -
I get what you're saying and gotta say I agree...
However, you live in the western hemisphere where you always have to politicially correct0 -

Anytime!! I always find that being snarky is much easier when one has a full grasp of grammatical rules and spelling. That way nobody can snark back at you for something that is completely beside the point. :flowerforyou:0 -
I've noticed this as well, and to take it one step farther (further?)
Note that the distinction between further/farther is become more blurred. I only pointed it out because you questioned it. Some sources will say they are interchangeable.0 -
And people just aren't overly excited to take "before" pictures. I know I wasn't. I didn't even take any (except for clothed) after my last pregnancy. "Yeah, I'm fat, and I'm taking photos in my underwear. Exciting." Then in the after ones I'll smile, wear makeup, make sure my hair is clean, etc....
This^^. Plus I think a lot of people don't think about taking "before" photos, so they just use one that they already had. But for the "after" there is usually some staging. You want to look your best when trying to show you have accomplished something great.0 -

I can't think of anyone who was actually happy with themselves when they had those before pictures taken. I can tell you for me personally I smile a LOT more these days:)0
