    Dear Posters,

    Quick preview of an upcoming clarification of one of our guidelines. We have a guideline against advertising and self-promotion in the forums, and in the next few days when we update the guidelines, that item will include this:

    7b) Requests or solicitations for donations are also not allowed. This includes requesting contributions to “pooled fund” competitions and requests for votes in any venue (political, online contests, etc.).

    Sorry, but it's a slippery slope if we allow any kind of solicitation to go unchecked in the forums.

    In light of the fact that this is a not-yet-published rule clarification, I'll just lock this thread rather than outright delete it.
