I'm sitll not sure how to measure rice.

1 cup cooked = Do I put the rice in a 1-cup measureing cup and pack it in like they do in chinese containers, or do you just scoop it in the cup loosely?

if measuring cooked I'd do it loosely filled, not packed.

Easier to measure it raw though before it ever touches water :)

ya know - I've experimented being a rice lover myself. However realizing the calorie consequences I decided to weigh things out on a scale. so, to answer your question ....... loosely! Weighing is always best but in a pinch use the measuring cup but scoop it in loosely!

I've been doing it loosely as well. Just curious.

I usually eyeball it. I started the weighing and meticulous measuring and it started to really bum me out so I just eyeball it and it's worked for me.

I typically make one cup to share with my boyfriend. I measure the rice dry in a 1 cup dry measuring cup before cooking. Then I just eyeball it once its cooked to divide it in half for the both of us.

What do you mean by eyeball it. How much does 1 cup look like to you size wise?

So you cook one cup of dry rice and then divide it in 2 when it is cooked?

One cup dry is the only way you and I can take the "same" rice and get the same calorie count in the end from it as I may (for example) decide mine is done while it is still crunchy and hasn't taken on all the water it could while you may cook it and cook it and cook it so its super soft and loaded with water (works even more so for pasta than rice) the only way our calorie count even CAN be the same is by measuring raw... be it 1/2 cup raw 1 cup raw or whatever.

Yes, I measure out 1 cup dry rice (which is double the serving size), then I divide it up when its cooked. So if you only want one serving for yourself, use a 1/2 measuring cup and fill it with dry rice which will equal 1 cup once it is cooked.

By eyeballing, its not perfect, but I will generally make a pile on one plate and try to even it out on the other plate.
