Class Canceled

I'm just really bummed and I figured I'd share here where other people might understand.

My favorite class, Olympic weightlifting, is being canceled at the time I go. I understand why they are doing this. I'm the only person who regularly goes. I feel like the gym itself isn't advertising the class at all. Neither of the owners of the gym are lifters. (One of them is actually certified, but she doesn't do it regularly. The other only does CrossFit style lifting.) They think that I can just go in for Open Gym and lift then. They don't understand how much I need to have a trainer there to work with me and point out what I'm doing wrong. (Sometimes I can totally feel that I've "jumped up" or that I'm "pulling with my arms" but other times I don't even realize what I've done wrong other than it doesn't feel quite right.)

They also don't seem to get how much this class has helped me to improve. Since I started going in June:

* I'm so much more flexible than I was. My squat went from being decent to what I consider amazing. I get compliments on my squat all the time.

*My core is so much stronger than it was.

* I'm so much more confident. I used to be afraid to try heavier weights for things. Now I've realized that I can swing a 35lbs kettlebell and do front and back squats with over 100lbs.

* I'm more comfortable trying new moves and a lot more successful. I can do overhead squats and L-hangs. I'm getting closer on toes to bar and pull ups.

Plus, Olympic lifting is just _fun_ to do. It's really cool to be able to take a bar with these big rubber weights on it and lift it from the ground to over my head. I'm still not lifting all that much (75lbs clean and jerk and 65lbs snatch) but I'm doing it, and I think I'm doing it pretty dang well.

Anyway, I just had to share how disappointed I am with someone who might understand. I was practically crying last night when I got home. My husband knows I love the class (heck, I even got the shoes!) but he just doesn't get why I'm so upset and why I can't just go to the open gym time.

    I'm sad for you :(

Would you be able to have them do a personal class for you? ie private training? I know that it's probably pricey, but if it's so important to you....then maybe?

It always sucks to have a class cancelled when that day/time was the one that worked for your schedule. Is the class being removed entirely or is it available at other times that you can go to? Sometimes if the class is really important you can find flex elsewhere in your schedule ;)

I totally understand where you are coming from! I am an early work out person because I have to go to work, and I have a family so i find it very hard to work out at night. I was a member of a gym who offered classes in the early AM, and I understand that there were not very many of us attending these classes, but there was still 3-5 of us!! And we need the help as much if not more than the 9am people who have all day to work out!! However, it did turn into a positive experience because I found other classes that pushed me just as hard, worked on a whole new set of muscles and met some new workout buddies! So maybe this is an open door for you to try something new!! or meet some new people. Good luck!!!

That totally sucks. My CrossFit gym places a lot of emphasis on the Olympic lifts, and runs a special Olympic class every 12 weeks for 3x/week. I plan to sign up for it soon to really nail my snatch and OHS - there's just not enough time to perfect them in regular CrossFit WOD's! I sympathize with you, but am so proud of your dedication to lifting! I hope a good solution will present itself to you soon, so that you can continue the awesome progress you're making.
    Best of luck!

They do offer the class at a different time -- on Saturday mornings. My gym is the CrossFit box that is right near my office. It's a half an hour from where I live. I'm not a morning person, so that's a little rough for me to have to get up extra early so I have time to eat and drink enough to be able to work out. (With my working out after work during the week and other things, Friday night is date night with my husband, so we usually get in pretty late on Friday.) Plus, I have other obligations that I can't move over the next several Saturdays. I am planning on trying to make the Saturdays I can, but it won't be regular.
