Change something up. Add or boost your strength training. Add a high spike calorie day to 'freak out' your metabolism. Add one more day of cardio or switch to a more intense cardio. Just do something different... and give it a week or so.

    Here are a few suggestions:
-increase caloric intake for a few days
    -change up your workout routine.
-Add HIIT in place of a cardio workout

I wish I knew - will be waiting for the responses to this thread - thanks for asking the question x x
  • I just give myself one day a month to eat whatever I want and then go back to eating healthy again the next day. I've lost 50 lbs in 4 months and I haven't had any plateaus. I'm hoping I won't run into that problem.

    1. Make sure your calorie maintenance is correct first.
    2. Once maintenance is correct, eat 500-1000 calorie deficit or a 20% deficit under maintenance.
    3. Ensure that you are eating .5g-1g of protein per lb of lean body mass at minimum.
    4. Try to eat .35-.50g of dietary fat per lb of bodyweight.
    5. Drink plenty of water/fluids each day.
    6. Get 6-8 hours of sleep every night.
7.Do some strength resistance training 3-5 days a week, and make sure you are taking atleast 1 day off, pref 2.
    8. Be patient.

I think it depends on what the cause of the plateau is, and even more importantly, is it even a plateau or is it someone freaking out over a week or two of water weight changes or weighing procedure inconsistancies.

First a plateau is 6 weeks or more of no weight loss being on a CONSISTENT diet and exercise program. If it's been less than 6 weeks, it's a stall. And like some have mentioned above, usually you just need to change something in your routine because the body has adapted.

Ditto on the caloric intake... If you don't stagger it every day, try doing that... Like three days low calorie, one medium then one high and repeat, or whatever works for you. Also you can try taking like a week off - don't go overboard but eat at maintenance or above. That plus shaking up your fitness should help a lot, at least it's been my experience.

Cardio twice a day just till get you through the plateau. Dont continue this for a long period of time as your body will adapt and it wont be as effective.

You will have to just keep being patient and perservering whilst losing weight because you are going to go through lots of plateaus and stalls, ups and downs but you just have to keep going. It has taken me 18 months to lose 28 kgs. I'm just 3 kgs away from my goal now and I have had to develop a lot of patience and determination. You just gotta keep plouging through.

All the other suggestions are good too. Change your exercise whether it be cardio or weights. Perhaps even different types of foods. Try increasing your calories. You gotta shock your body because it has adapted.

edited to say: It would help if you give us more info about your situation, then we can provide more feedback. thanks :)

i hit a plateau at 205lbs. i couldnt break it and after a lot of reading, i changed up my routing of just carido (was running 4miles 6days per week).

and started only running 2 to 3miles followed by 30 to 45 of weight lifting...everyday i work a different part of my body...i didnt change my eating habits, and i destroyed my plateau. im at 194lbs. and i dont worry about a plateau anymore...since my workout changes everyday.

    hope this helps my friend!
