How do you track intervals?

I totaled the amount of time walking and tracked that then totaled the amount of time jogging and tracked that...

Any other ideas?

  • Right, for my intervals I only count the actual time spent working, not the rests in between.

Do you mean distance, calories or time?
For distance I do it at our high school track and keep count of my laps, and then I use my HRM to keep track of both time and the calories burned.

You really don't have to seperate them, just list as jogging. It evens out.

Whenever I run interval training if I'm on a treadmill I won't count the time resting like If I run then step off. However, if I run and then just bring it down to a walk during rests I'll count it all equally basically.

When I do intervals (running) I just input to MFP based on my average pace for the entire run (based on my Garmin). That gets me close enough on calories. For my running log, I input the actual splits.

I jog in between my repeats, so I think the approach is fine.

This is where a Heart Rate Monitor comes in handy, I think. I do intervals sometimes, but just track the calories for my whole workout based on my HRM readings.

An HRM definitely makes this easy. It's well worth the investment!
