HI All of you :flowerforyou:
I was watching PBS one night and Dr Amen was on. He was saying that in his book, they reported that someone did a head to head study on exercise against a popular antidepressant. EXERCISE WON! Not only did the people who exercise feel better on a day to day basis than the people who took the antidepressant, but they felt even better when they had the results of losing weight!
This is why I exercise. It helps lift my spirits every day AND I have the side benefit of losing some weight as well as being healthier.:drinker:

I have noticed that my spirits are way up since exercising. About 2 years ago when my back started giving me a lot of trouble, and I had some other neurological things going on....my dr sent me to a Neuro, who told me basically it was all in my head and I needed antidepressants. I said no it's not and no I don't. So she reported back to my dr that I was seeking drugs (the hard stuff I guess) and that she wouldn't see me anymore. My dr knew that was crap cuz I didn't even want the drugs he was pushing on me.
So about a year and a half, and 50 pounds later, I had gone through steroid injections and the whole 9 yards. He finally did a lower lumbar MRI and found 2 herniated discs and spinal lesions. I made an appt with the original Neuro and threw the MRI in her face! I couldn't help myself!
Sorry about the long story, but it just really eats me up to think about it and to see them shoving pills down people's throats all the time.0 -
Yes, I work in a psychiatric hospital and exercise is one of the tools that we use and recommend for depressed patients.0
